I went on a Shubarth run years ago and I thought it should be renamed:
"Snow Packed Winch Fest"
Has anyone checked it out up there? If there is 3' of snow on the trail, it makes for a long day. Of course that's what likely makes it fun for some people, I dunno.

J.T. and I went on some unbroken trails in the same area as Shubarth and the snow was not that deep. maybe the deepest I saw was a foot or so. Regardless, J.T. made everything look pretty easy with just 285? tires, rear chains, and no lockers. Unless we get some of that snow that's bombing the East, I think everyone will make it just fine. 
Schubarth Road will be rather boring on the January 23. No significant snow in the forcast between now and then.

It sounds like the Forest service has many abandonded vehicles in the national forest that need to be recoverd. Maybe we can see if we can help them out on January 23?
I want my damn money back on the month of January! This is Colorado! stupid 70 degree days in January?! I want my 3 feet of snow........what a rip off........

That guy's an idiot! ha ha. I know Colorado weather is usually forgiving, I just remember hearing about the bad winter the year or two before I got here. Think it was 2005 or 2006? I want that winter! need to try out the new 37's in some deep @$$ snow! Shubarth run is probably going to be pretty uneventful, but I think it will stay on the schedule in January for years to come. Wait!!!
Maybe we can get up to Wheeler lake in January and shift Shubarth to April???

If we don't get any snow before the trip, then definitely stocker friendly. Might have a deep spot here and there, but should be able to get a running start at it or just wait for some other rigs to bust through.
I went with 33's, it will get me through 80% of the trails (like you said), I'm sure the carnage of the other 20% would just set me back on my resto project on the 40.

I have to decide if I am going to put my old birfield and axle shaft back in or not. The axle housing is bent!

It's fun up to the 3rd time you have to dig yourself out of the snow or someone else helps you...then it just becomes work...I like just enough snow we can get through without getting stuck...
I want enough snow to make it some work but not so much that everyone gets stuck.
