Thanks for the motivation though

Here's mine, not the cleanest, but it will probably be the only Ford that shows up in this thread!

You can see my overflow bottle at the bottom left. I bought a cheapy one online, I think it was 25 bucks. Works great. I don't believe a 1970 came with an overflow, just dumped to the street, at least that was how mine was setup when I first bought it.

Mine

Ken, That's Purdy, Nice Work. Here's mine. Just beginning to breathe life again. Looms and various other organizers soon to follow after the tub is ready to be bolted on.

RWBeringer4x4, thanks for starting this thread. I was thinking about organizing some of my mess under the hood on my 40 this winter, so I am definitely subscribed and plan on referring to this when the time comes. One question I have is some of the wires in my engine bay are to short to really group a bunch together and organize. Is it "poor form" to splice in some new wire to lengthen the existing wire? Obviously I'm not talking about spark plug wires, more like horn wiring and the like. Overall I think my wiring is in good working order (everything works except the e-brake light) so I don't belive a new harness is needed, it's just messy.

Hey folks,

So I have to stare at my crusty 283, and a giant spaghetti monster of wires and hoses every time I pop the hood of my 40. I need some inspiration! I will hopefully be getting new Valve Covers/Manifold/Air Cleaner before too long. I'd like to see how other folks have routed their hoses and wires to make their engine bay a little "prettier" than the usual rat's nest.

Also, I currently have no radiator overflow bottle, so I'll need to find somewhere to squeeze that as well.

Let's see em!

Mine started out looking much like yours, though I think your spark plug wires are better than mine were originally.

As for an expansion tank, I didnt have one either. Found http://www.speedwaymotors.com/15-Inch-Stainless-Steel-Expansion-Tank,7302.html which worked perfectly. I just fabbed a couple brackets so the tank attaches to the right side of the radiator. Mounts with the same bolts that hold the radiator to its mount. Cant see it in the pics, the radiator is getting rodded out at the moment.

Interesting.... you seem to have the same strange headers I do.... that requires cutting the fenders and, at least on mine, goes over the frame rails...... I can't tell from your pic but it looks the same as mine.

Mine was most likely built in the late 70's / early 80's then sat for forever....

Yup, the driver side requires the fender to be cut out and it wraps around the manual steering pump. Not sure how it has survived, but so far it has!

Each side goes over the frame rail to cherry bomb mufflers, then out before the the rear wheel.

I have a pair of Ram horns waiting in the wings to go in.

I'm totally not worthy, Ken.

:clap::clap::clap:

Do folks here know you were featured in the March/April issue of 4WD Toyota Owner? Page 8...

thanks and for those of you that think it does not get dirty, look at the pictures on the pages.

Mine was swapped with saginaw... so that hasn't been an issue for me yet..

However I hadn't seen any others like it.

Is your passenger side cut out as well? I'm pretty sure mine is... the entire rig is in pieces.

Also - have you had yours off yet to determine if your heads are round or square port? I'm intrigued.... you headers look identical... I found square ports on the motor that came off (double camel hump heads... this thing is leaning towards a 327 that was in there)but round ports on the 350 going in.... so I'm a tad concerned there. I'd like to hear if these headers work for round ports as well.

as a side note.... it appears these are considered aftermarket Jeep SBC "fenderwell" headers....

good to know we can still get them for $130+ from SummitRacing.

Wow, this was quite the conversation starter! Glad others found use/inspiration out of it. It's crazy how many different ways essentially identical engines can be set up.

Thanks for the heads up on the overflow bottle! I'll have to work something similar out. Right now the radiator is slightly crooked, and too far forward, so I can't mount the grille mesh - once I get it all adjusted I will probably add an overflow bottle as well.

I've got rams horns but they've been through the ringer. Hoping electrolysis will bring them back. Then, just add wire looms, right?!
