Should I be patient for a "real" 45 or build one out of a 40...

I looked for years brother. I even tried to get a guy in Afghanistan to seel me his and i would figure a way to get it back here somehow.

I would wait myself. It stinks to wait for that long but in the end it was worth it to me.

Thanks Darin, I guess I could stand to get some patience for such things...

I built mine because I am cheap..... but time is not money for me.

If I had more money I would have gone with an aluminum tub etc.

It is a lot of work chasing rust from a stock body regardless how nice.....

I'm kind of the same way. Not to say that my time isn't valuable, just that I don't mind spending time on such things. I'm sure something will turn up soon...

I would build one instead of cutting up a 45. If you have a running, driving 40 its not that hard or expensive. It gets expensive when you change drive train, axles, add lockers, Etc....... Its all about time and how much you have to put into it.
Myself and a buddy built mine start to finish(excluding paint), afternoons and saturdays, in 7 weeks and did it without aftermarket panels. I did not build a hard top, but had a soft top made.
I know its not a true 45, but i can slide and recline my seats and have room for storage behind them.
Again, i would build it. My .02

Thanks for your insight and ideas.

I've got a deal in the works so my path is being set. I have no plans to cut up a 45, though I do have plans to make it strong driver and fun on the trails.

Thanks to all in your feedback, suggestions as well as the PM's pointing me toward some available 45's. I'll be glad to join this "family" and be posting pics once I get it in my hands, hopefully, before the end of the year...

Awesome !
Have fun, and post some pics of your new baby.

With the 45SWB fixed cab a guy definitely has to count biscuits at dinner time. There's nooo room in there. I'm 5'10.5" and about 220 today. It's made for a more compact man than I for sure.

So, your saying I'm in for the new weight loss program, imposed by the FJ45. Now I have another good reason to justify it to the wife...

if you think thats bad try being 6'6 and fitting in a fj45 not an easy task.

Don't know if patience mattered but I did get my hands on one, delivered a couple hours ago. The ih8mud network put me onto this rig and I couldn't be happier to join the family here. I'll post up some more pics once I get some daylight but here is how it looked, laying my eyes and hands on it for the first time. Thankfully, the seller represented the rig with all honesty and all showed up just as expected.

Unloaded off the trailer, turned the key and it fired right up. Gave it a good drive around town all worked as it should. Can't wait to crawl around and under it in the morning to get familiar with my new project...
