I was looking at the engine bay and noticed these cracks. Is this an issue?

Edit: I should have included more info. Truck is a 1992 FZJ75 Troopy. Mid east spec.

I'd like to, but it's an FZ. IIRC , the radiator is NLA. Where can I get an aftermarket one?

You think it's OK for an 800 mile (round) trip?

Oh, shoot! Thanks!

And it will fit a 1992? When I put in my VIN, it pulls a different part #. It says I need #16400-66020

jeez, they want $300 for shipping! 😲

You should put that information into your signature so people don't have to mind-read. ;)

Since I had no idea what your truck was I merely found any available FZJ7x truck radiator. It will fit.

Hello,

I am late to the party.

A post-1999 radiator will do. However, there is an extra 10mm or 3/8 in. hose that goes from the upper tank to the carburetor, if I remember correctly. You may have to plug it.

Hope this helps.

If time is critical I’d take it to a radiator shop and get their opinion.
With the brackets off the tank, maybe the cracks could be brazed or welded.

Wanted to get your guys' opinion on something since we are on the topic of radiators. I have a leak somewhere at the bottom of the radiator, right hand side. I haven't really dug yet in to see exactly from where though.

I don't want to try any stop leak solutions, I feel those cause more issues in the cooling system than good, and so my other options are limited.

Easiest option is to simply buy a new OEM radiator and I will do that if the leak is not able to be fixed.

My question is about repairing the leak. If I drain the coolant and get the radiator on the bench, would it be possible to solder the leaking hole closed? Or would the pressure of the cooling system blow out any repairs?

Thanks

Coolant system pressure would be like 10psi so solder would work.
Finding the leak, cleaning the area and getting things heated properly without melting some other joint might be hard.
If you do it, consider using solder with silver for strength.

Thanks for the info, when I have time I'll have to get under and see if I cant pinpoint the leak.

It depends on where the leak is, if it is somewhere on the bottom tank then it should be pretty easy to solder, if it is in the fins then it might be too difficult to access with solder. I did a temporary (permanent) repair on my original LJ78 radiator using basic plumbing solder, it held for a few years until I replaced the radiator.

I guess the answer really depends on why it's leaking.

Rubbing or other mechanical means to wear a hole or puncture the rad, repair can most likely be made and will last once the problem that caused it is fixed.

But sometimes it's simply age, poor maint, rust ect. causing the material to thin and the weakest spot finally let go, in that case replace would be the better option.

I have a used radiator on my 1993 FZJ75 and was thinking of buying the larger HDJ79 radiator since I'm doing a 1HDT swap now. I'd sell you mine if you're interested. It is the factory Toyota one with the steam port on the top tank.
