The shifter in my truck that problam of pivoting around in any position, I took the cilindrical plastic bushing off another shifter but had no effect ( the other was pretty worn), The truck has a 5 speed and the shifter is the type where you need to push down the retaining collar and turn it about 1/8 turn to get it out. Everything looks normal, the housing has two pins that the shifter mounts to they are in good shape with no signs of wear, the shifter itself has just a liitle wear where it mounts on the two pins , other than that I can't figure out what the problam is, seems if there was more pressure on the spring it would work, could something, a washer , spring collar, or some sort of bushing be disentigrated and missing?
If someone could shed some light on this it would be most appriciated, maybe an exploded drawing or a photo of a known complete shifter assembly would be great.

Thanks for the link, now I just need to determin exactly what type of 5 speed is in the truck as the po replaced the 4 speed...see they also have a shift boot for me along with other stuff.

On marlin's site there is a bunch of pics of trannys so you can compare to what you have.... but I seem to recall that they only have one style of shifter seat... maybe they all take the same? :D
a R150 one fit in my W56, and a W56 fit in my G52. so i thinks its safe to say they are all the same

I even put a 2wd one in my 86 G52, but I had to cut the height down and it was a tight fit...

also... I need to stop using the word "tranny" it can really be taken out of context..... :D

yeah, especially since i was linked out to this surgery site today in chat. yikes. there are some tranny answers on theat site.

Yeh talked to the guy at Marlin today ( a tranny guy for sure, but NOT that type ), real helpful and the parts are on the way-thanks again for the great link.

Yes , they ship fast and the shifter feels great- should have taken care of this problem a long time ago.
