When I did the factory FJ80 snork O had the counter jockey cross reference the parts. He said the precleaner was available, but I didn't press the matter. Based on that I was going to suggest that for the intake opening. Now that I see the complete DIY inlet, I like what you did better! Nicely done!

Final Stage

Today I finished up the airbox and tied the system together. I used 3/16 ABS plastic and made an airbox the size of the K&N filter I already had. Plastic welding and ABS cement come in handy.
I also made a vent cover from a piece of 3/16 ABS. I used weatherstrip and some angle brackets to make a hatch attached to the K&N side of the box so I can service the filter. I sealed the box on the inside with some industrial body sealant.

I hope this helps others in search of a snorkel.

Total cost for the project: ~$75
ABS pipe $12
Quickfist Clamps $30
ABS plastic pieces for airbox $10
Rubber 3" elbow w/ clamps $6
Krylon Fusion paint $10
90 degree ABS elbow $5

Here is the complete assembly
And some shots of the quickfist clamps after trimmed
The airbox allows 3" of space in front of the filter and about 1" all the way around. I test drove it and no extra noise on the road. Barely visible from driver's seat.
