I posted many months back with lots of photos of the extensive roof and A pilar rust. There was a little back end frame rust and some belly rust too, but not too bad. It was the roof and the fact that the VIN had *issues* because the importer skipped a step and failed to obtain form HS-7 from U.S. Customs (to save himself a couple of hundred bucks), so it was technically illegal, though eligible for legal entry, and she was registered, titled and insured in FL. But now, it will be registered as an FJ62 and I won't have any more dreams of her getting seized and crushed.

When I am done with this swap, I will have some fun demolishing Sheila's body. I'll take some pictures when I do...

Any naming suggestions for the new ride? "Sheila" is the generic term for a woman in Oz, and coincidentally has been the name of my fictitious mistress (my wife's is "Raul") for over a decade, so the name just came naturally. I can't carry the name over to the new rig, and I am drawing a blank for ideas...

As for that little red wagon, well... it is now in need of some "body work". The wife and kids were less than enthralled by its new shape. It's weight rating is 250 lbs. We easily loaded four times that amount (possibly 5), and all that happened was some VERY flat tires and the front and back rails were bent down. It'll be fixable. (That's my story to the wife...)

As for the carabiner, the one used is a Petzl Am'D (aluminum). The Working Load Limit (the point where 50% of tested units snap) is 28 kN long axis, 8 kN open gate, 7 kN short axis. As you can see from the pictures, the long axis (of course) is the one used. 28kN is 6294 lbs. so it could suspend the entire vehicle, but that chain is difficult to get numbers for. The best I can figure, it has a limit of ~ 2500 lbs., so we were probably safe.
How about Tofu_IS_****?

Neat project- looks like its coming along well for you...

Evisceration is spelled....

Evisceration:flipoff2:

read over page 11 for what I did.

I re-used the fj62 pedal buck for a few reasons and added the clutch bucket pedal to it.

I have different thread settings, took me a while to find post #309, which for me, was on page 7...

Say, since my master cylinder is from an '82, if I got a new pedal bucket, it would need to be from an early 60 then...

But I'll do what you did. Can you weld that cup on there without taking the 62's pedal bucket out? I think that *might* be easier than removing the thing and reinstalling it.

Nope:doh:

Touche'. Revel in it, you won't get too many other chances...

And know this: I will never confuse "lose" vs. "loose", "their" vs. "there" vs. "they're", "its" vs. "it's", "to" vs. "too", etc.

My mom was a grade school teacher...

Update:

Got the pedal bucket out of the 62, which was MUCH harder than the 60 the dash has a brace over the steering column, I had to pull the bucket from below and that was an exercise in wiggling, twisting and pulling. Took two friggin' hours! In the 60, the bucket comes out over the steering in 10 minutes. Pictures tomorrow.

It helps when someone already took all the bolts out for you:flipoff2:

Ok, there are LOTS of pictures here...

P1010002.jpg

3FE fan on L, 2H on right. Note difference in depth.
P1010004-1.jpg

60 (RHD) L, 62 (LHD) R
P1010005-1.jpg

Note clutch master cylinder bolt hole angles. They're quite different.
P1010006-1.jpg

A little better shot.
P1010007-1.jpg

An obvious difference.
P1010009.jpg

Firewall.
P1010010-1.jpg

Note the brace, dead center of photo, above steering column. This prevented the pedal bucket from exiting through the dash. That made it a real bitch.
P1010011-1.jpg

The clutch master cylinder still in the 60.
P1010012-1.jpg

Close up of that master cylinder and reservoir.
P1010013-1.jpg

Back side of it.
P1010014.jpg

Full floating rear axles, probably for sale in a few weeks (hold your orders...)
P1010015-1.jpg

Among many of Sheila's cancers, this was under bondo.
P1010016-1.jpg

You should see what's under that tape that is painted white. The entire corner is gone. It was filled with fiberglass.
P1010018-1.jpg

Shaila's clutch master cylinder and brake booster and brake master cylinder.
P1010019-1.jpg

Aisin brake booster, apparently rare in the States (???)
P1010020-1.jpg

Another shot of the clutch master cylinder.
P1010021-1.jpg

220 gallon home heating oil storage tank, now filled with B100.

The hardest part on the 62 came after all the bolts were out. But yeah, the bolts were suck ass too (thanks again). Getting to them with the dash and steering column in place is not easy, and I can't find my extension, so it was a knuckle mangler.

Aisin MC are common here. Aisin Boosters are not.

You are going to have to order a new Clutch MC, since you are re-using your 62 pedal bucket. The reason why is because the bolt pattern changed. Order one from an 86-87 fj60...and it will bolt right up (after drilling the firewall)

I'm getting a pedal bucket from a fellow Mudder in L.A. Now, here's where you better be right Al (or else I will....wait, I'll come up with something...) You've been right about everything else so far... (Deo, not so much. :flipoff2:)
This Cali bucket is from an '87. This is what I want so I can use Sheila's clutch master cylinder, correct???
This is confusing to me. Why would an older 60 series pedal bucket not work? Sheila is an '82; so wouldn't that call for an early 60 bucket?

BTW, there's NO WAY I am moving over Sheila's wiring harness. It was hacked into pretty badly by a bush mechanic in Oz and has no provisions for the power mirrors, windows, door locks, etc., etc. I will use the Tofudebeest's (in great shape) and add what provisions from the 60 harness I need to. I also can't figure out how to get the ignition/lock cylinder out for the glow cycle...

Also, to make this so much more fun, my father-in-law informed me last night that he wants to turn in his leased Heep Grand Cherokee early and asap (cheaper than making the remaining 18 payments, according to him--he is in the biz), so I am supposed to "finish my truck as quickly as I can". And my wife's MB rattles so badly at idle, I wonder if that vehcile is not self-destructing. 10X the normal vibration at idle. Feels like a bad motor mount (which would be a blessing compared to what else it could be).

I need at least one beater back-up car...

I now understand how rednecks end up with a dozen cars on their property in various stages of disassembly. I even have the classic powertrain lawn ornament.

Hey now......

I resemble that remark.

"I also can't figure out how to get the ignition/lock cylinder out for the glow cycle..."

Put the key in the 'acc' position and use a small punch or pin to press the little detent pin on the side of the aluminum housing which hold the ignition barrel. Push the pin in and hold it in, and then you ought to be able to withdraw the barrel with the key in it.

What sort of glow system are you going with? Manual/Wilson switch? Factory Superglow?

What gears are in Shelia? Don't sell the FF.

If you are getting an 87 clutch bucket, than yes you need a new Clutch Master Cylinder...which are not expensive and good to replace anyway...From the gunk I saw sitting in the bottom of it, I would say its over due.

Get a MC for an 87 fj60...

81-84 have a different bolt pattern than 85-87...

As for the wiring harness....I would use the HJ one. Even though an air horn was spliced into the front it should not be to hard to clean up. I would worry about the window/mirror controls last, leaving the wiring for them in place and splicing it in afterwords.

The 3fe wirng loom has a great deal of connections. Even just swapping a Manual tranny behind my 3fe lead to 6+ plugs not being used and some had to be jumped in order to start the rig.

So, I still vote HJ harness...
