Sheilalala seeks a fawty

It was originally designed by "holeshot" in Utah.

Same hood as I had on Kate and that Daryl runs.

Ahhh... So Daryl just chose not to cut up stock fenders to finish the look? Is that what you have to do to make it look like the Ross 40?

I' ve been looking at the rear axle and it just didn't look like the huge axle dragging 14 bolt that we're familiar with..
So I've been doing some investimigatin.

Turns out the semi float (SF) 8 lug version of a 14 bolt rear axle has a 9.5 inch ring gear instead of the 10.5 ring gear full floater (FF) version.

Ahah! This explains why it hasn't been dragging the concrete even with 37s.

This 9.5 SF 14 bolt is equivalent to a Dana 60 in strength at the ring and pinion.

The SF axle shafts are 33 spline while the FF are 30 spline.

So this axle should be plenty strong for now. Since it will be driven on street and the trail the 37s will stay put for awhile.

Since the brake booster is doing well I was thinking of eventually adding disc brakes to the 14 bolt mainly because I don't like the idea of C clip axles sliding out if the axle shaft breaks. The caliper should hold it together.

I have not seen a full floater conversion kit for this axle.

So instead of swapping axles to a FF and rebuild the upper link truss, weld the mounts, shave it (because I still want to have at least the same ground clearance as with the 37s), and weld lower mounts to keep the 4 link, I was thinking of building this axle.

All it would "need" is
Disc brakes (once the drums wear out or need service)
Maybe different locker since it may have a posi.
Maybe stronger axleshafts.

Which this is all bolt on Minor stuff compare to a FF Swap

What do you guys think?

That axle is plenty strong. Run it....

The shaft could be bolted in like a 9". Are you sure it is C clip?

Not likely that there is a Chrome Moly axle offering. The market is just too small.

I am sure there is a disc brake bracket out there for it. Try Speedway. Probably have to piece together a kit once you find a caliper bracket.

You know my vote on this. 14bolt FF out of a CUCV are cheap with full detroits and 456 gears. (what gears are you running now?)All you would have to add is the disc swap if you want to. 37"s will still work fine on the street but you'd need a little more altitude for the trail.

If you were going to polish a turd (14 bolt SF) you should have just stayed with Cruiser axles. Just my $.02 though.

You know Lenny likes him some shiny turds!

We will run it as is till the weak link presents its ugly self.

The rear isn't a pressing need... the radio is ...according to Sheilalala. ; )

The front axle and the tcase are ahead of it on the list, but again I won't change any of it till it goes pop.

I georgled "polishing a turd" and this is what came up:

Stereo. Focus!

SF 14 bolts are indeed c-clip axles.

I'd run it, Lenny. They're plenty strong and cheap.

If you're looking for a good swap candidate, a Ford 9" is where it's at. Just gotta throw some money at it to make it all work - 8 lug chromo shafts, 35 spline center, gears, etc.

IMHO, the CUCV set is the way to go when it comes time. Easy to make a simple truss to mount the links on top, and everyone and their mom is making a link bracket for lowers to attach to the axle.

Truthfully, why? Just run it. Those axles are pretty darn stout for the places I would think you'll wanna go. This may see some harder stuff, but it's not a buggy, and you fo' sho' don't wanna add rash to the sheetmetal. Such a pretty truck!

You will need to Georgle this, but this is your answer.

I have a feeling Sheilalalalala won't be babying it like Lenny. I can see her with her badass sound system turned up to eleven, with a truck full of chicks, pedal to the metal, V8 hittin' the rev limiter, full throttle assaulting everything in sight.

It's been Grogled. That's gotta count for something

Buying and selling ...maybe :flipoff:
