 I've been considering this mod now that the garage door's working again.

Seriously though, fixed up a 25 year old Sears Craftsman Air Compressor my Father got me and can't figure out why I didn't get one years ago. Screw Dremel Tools, give me an air grinder any day.

Wire in six inverters and do the lights on Wimpy!

Ironically, my father's 17 year-old Craftsman compressor finally just died. He tried to salvage it, but replacement parts can't be found, so a new one's on his Christmas wish list.

Edit: the song reminds me of Q-Zar.

I had a Garmin that was sitting around (have a different one for my 4Runner) and the dash is trashed on my pickup. So I figured I'd rig it up in the pickup.

So it may be slow and rusty but at least I won't get lost!

I like it!
What's the mounting assembly?

Is this a mod?
Carrying an old table cloth under my seats, so when I'm camped out with my buddies, I can throw it over the hood of The Mule, and we now have our own bar counter!
I've done it without the cloth, but it's nice not having look at bird crap and splattered bugs while having a brew.

FJ Cruiser. It's supposed to sit down in the dash right behind the steering wheel.

Oh, so it's a Garmin product for the FJC?

I like your first-gen, even if she's a wee bit ragged in places, it's character.
Start a thread and share it with us!

Yeah it was an accessory that Toyota offered but it was only available in certain areas and they discontinued it shortly after.

I plan on starting a build thread soon. I have a few pictures of the old beast. I've started some work on it already but still a loooooooonnnnggg way to go. So far I've pulled the bed off and the gas tank out. I need to take it to get cleaned and coated. The frame is in surprisingly good shape for an '80 model. There is a huge hole in the drivers side floor which I am going to have to fab up a new floor pan for. The hole is from the driver's side window being broken and the truck parked outside for who knows how long. There are some serious electrical issues. I believe the ground on the frame under the bed was not making good contact so it was back-feeding into other stuff and some hack tried to "fix" it. What I've found so far is that the headlight circuit is feeding into the ignition somehow. I'll get into that headache more when I make the thread. I did score some used wheels and tires for a really good price. I'm going to put them on this weekend so I should have some pics next week. Here is a pic of the beast after I first got it home.

I love it! I've seen something similar in the newer Jeeps, but not the FJC version. Do you know what year of FJ Cruisers that gps dash cradle was found on? I've been searching, but I couldn't find any more info about them.

It's listed by Toyota as a port installed option only for Los Angeles, San Francicso, Boston, Portland, New York and CATD Regions only. Says it fits 07-09 FJs. Part number is PT917-35070. It shows a retail price of $1269.57.

However! None of that really matters because it's discontinued. I also happen to know that price is wrong. When we had this one in stock a few years ago retail price for the whole kit was only around $650.

The Garmin is a Quest 2, which is also discontinued and I'm not sure if you can get map updates anymore. The disc that was in the kit was from like 07 or 08.

Re: Garmin stuff,

I got the best "Whatever Mod" I have ever done this last week!

I'd recently sold my Garmin for more than i got it for (Industry Promo). I liked it, but didn't love it. I'm tring to use an Alton Brown logic to stuff lately, if it doesn't multi-task, it isn't worth having in the truck. Too much extra unnecessary gear these days sucks my pocketbook dry on trips. So, that same day I went and picked up an iPhone 3GS for free and I decided to take a chance and download the Abvio Cyclemeter App. Using it I can do mapping, etc both for cycling as well as backcountry and travel stuff in the 4Runner. So far it's gotten me unlost in the downtown San Francisco area twice in the last few days and kept an arguement from happening with a spouse who's got no sense of direction or mapreading ability. I got the Otter Case holder for it, so it's at least a little more protected, and I clip it into my cupholder at the center console/vent area of the 4Runner with it backwards in the holder so I can take a glance if need be, and also run it with announcements so I have audibles to follow.

If you were to carry out the logic of the benefits of the mod I know anyone with a significant other will agree to the value here.

Since I'm one of only a few friends who can read UTM, and I travel backroads as a hobby, the :princess: leaves the navigating up to me... for now.
I'm hoping to show her the basics of orienting a map Thursday night, though, and work from there. The Mule has only two seats, and 95 ponies under the hood and if my passenger can't navigate, then why carry dead weight?
Shane, you get points for the AB reference! That's the same philosophy I have with backpacking gear!

Having a decent little flashlight is always handy, here's what I just shared in the Any Flashlight Nuts/Led Upgrade Thread.

~FWIW here's a cheap upgrade I did last night for my two mini (AA) maglights. By cheap, for me I mean FREE (minus my labor and solder work).

Had one of these from a buddy's bike shop that the circuitry went bad on.
(Cateye Rep usually throws them out or writes them off and lets us have them for small spare parts.)
cateye_hl-el135_torch_led_light_lamp_head.jpg

So I desoldered the LED's, opened up the reflector hole a little bit and voila! (LED fits right into the holder plate.)

Swing by your local bike shop and find the tech with the dirtiest finger tips and ask him if you can raid the spare parts bin for light stuff! :D

So far I have 6 hours of run time on it!

awesome!
That's brilliant (no pun intended).

Those cateye lights put out a ton of light, too.
My best buddy always brings his on our backpacking trips, and it outshines my pet headlamp!

i tore out the bench and replaced it with buckets out of an sr5 4runner. bolted right in, but the front inners didnt have factory threads in the floor boards. oh well, 75% is close enough. plus i can fit an 18 pack of 16oz's snug between the seats. handy when 4x'n.

Fixed, if you get my drift. Family oriented site and all.

Oh, sure, clean it up now, but the health-food nuts will hang an effigy of you for mentioning soda instead of crunchy, delicious carrot-wads!
