hi, i just found a sweet air compressor and gun in my grandmas shed. So why not paint my truck? there are some questions i have considering i have never painted anything with a gun before. right now i have a rattle can primer on my truck. should i wet sand this primer before i go to shoot the paint. then what number nozzle should i use to paint for cars and trucks? When i get my paint (622 nebula green) am i supose to use some kind of thinning lacqur or something in with the paint? clear coat at the same time or after? once again i have never done this before so some basic info like this means alot to me. Anything else i missed? THANKS

I can answer all your questions, but you'd be much better off talking to your auto body paint store. They can tell you all about the mix, when to clear, what reduction ratio, etc, and it does vary from brand to brand and within brands. Yes, you need to wet sand the primer. Never had a auto spray type gun with nozzle sizes?

Yes, spray guns have "nozzle sizes" or "spray tips". Some folks have had good results with Harbor Freight guns, etc. Here is a set from Northern Tool that gives you 3 separate guns with different size tips. One for primer, color/clear, and a smaller one for detail work: FREE SHIPPING — Titan 4-Pc. HVLP Triple Setup Paint Spray Gun Kit, Model# 19220 | Paint Spray Guns | Northern Tool + Equipment

While there is some good info on painting on MUD, there are better sites out there on the web - after all most of us here on MUD are just grease monkeys :D

Also, NAPA does have a good selection of paint - I have used their Martin Senour line but have heard they are just rebadged Sherwin Williams products.
