My LX450 has about 80k on the current set of OEM distributor cap, rotor and spark plug wires. What is the replacement interval on these items?

Also, what is the replacement interval on the rubber brake hoses? Mine are the original from 1997.

I wouldn't trust an old distributor cap.

Even if it runs fine, the heat cycles have reduced the plastic to an extremely brittle state.

I bumped mine while dinking around under the hood and it shattered into a zillion pieces. I really lucked out and was able to have a no-name one delivered from a local auto parts store; it was the only one available in the Midwest at the time. Sucky way to be stranded, imo.

My preference is to replace the cap and rotor at 60,000 mile intervals. The wire set can stretch to ~90,000 miles. After that the wires tend to fall apart whenever you need to manipulate them.

Looks like I need to make a call to Cdan tomorrow for some ignition parts.

What about the fuel filter and PCV valve?

When i bought my 97 with 200k miles on it the wires where the originals and where just fine. Still plyable. Soft and with no arching... Amazing given the Arizona dry weather chews up anything rubber especially under the hood !!! The Toyota wires are marked with manufacture date I replaced them with new OEM wires and trew in a new cap and rotor + plugs...... but 200k on them and still looking and working fine... what a testament to the quality of parts toyota put into our cruisers

Your brake lines are 18 years old. It is way more important to be able to stop than it is to go. Replace them. You would think that would be pretty high on the priority list.

Know of a bunch of FJ40s and FJ60s that still run original lines, disappointing that FZJ80 stuff is so much more frail.

I just changed my rubber brake hoses on my 60. They were 29 years old and working fine. Didn't look too bad. Could see some fine cracks in the rubber when I bent them at a sharp radius.
(I would recommend changing them sooner).

A fuel filter can clog in one tank of gas or last a lifetime. It depends on how dirty the fuel is. No way to give a recommendation.

My experience was the same as @Manuelsv when I bought my '97 with 212k on the clock...The brake hoses were in much rougher shape than the ignition system.

I'm happy for you. For those of us who daily drive our 80s, I think waiting for a failure to change brake parts is not really a good practice. I'm pretty sure 18 years is long enough.
