Anybody got one they want to sell? Not interested in waiting 2-3 weeks to get one rebuilt while the LC sits in the garage.

I'm going with a wood at 10 and 2 instead of leather for hopefully a more permanent solution. I'll let you know if I get it. Thanks for the heads up.

Core will go out today but wood is not as permanent of a solution as you think. What happens with the wood is with enough sun exposure you get fading and eventually the clear coat on the wood will develop tiny little cracks along the top edge. The wood wheel in our LX is starting to develop these tiny little crack, its not that bad but at some point I will probably sand down and re clear the wood section. Probably not as bad as the leather wearing out but definitely not bullet proof.

Agreed. My clear coat on the wood console inlays is in that shape where the sun exposure is the greatest. I appreciate the advice. Wood might make it 20 years instead of 15.

My steering wheel needs to be redone but I've been putting it off too long because I can't seem to find someone who will do the job properly. I don't want a refurb but a replacement/complete rebuild using quality leather, foam and experience. And, like all, I don't want to end up with movement between the outer leather sheath and the steel core; somewhat symptomatic of many rebuilds. Seems most of what I read from other's that have had their's refurbed/rebuilt has not resulted in 100% satisfaction.

Strangely, that guy and the guy that did my wheel are all of maybe ten miles from each other.

Will the Lexus and LC steering wheels interchange with the appropriate years? ie will 98-02 LC wheels fit on LX and vice versa?

I'd like to know this as well. I have a 1999 LX I need the steering wheel redone on. Would a few people be willing to chip in and buy a core that can be passed around?

My steering wheel is in route to Dallas Steering Wheel...I should have it back late next week; thx super90 for the recommend (coin toss between the two Dallas wheel crafters...). I do have a steering wheel off a '96 80, from another buddy that sold his rig, waiting in the wings if the R&R stretches out too far...

It looks like a "class B" crossover fit but I haven't actually installed it...yet.

If you don't mind my asking - what does it cost to have the wheel recovered?

The company I talked to gave a price of $399 to rewrap the leather sections of the steering wheel...they did not have any cores so would be about a 4 week job (Leatherseats.com). So that is just to rewarp leather and not replace or fix anything else..like the wood.

Then APSIS USA INC said they would be a complete replacement steering wheel.... $850 up front and then when they receive my old steering wheel they refund me $400 core charge...so cost would be $450 for a brand new steering wheel. http://www.apsisusa.com/Steering Wh...el Application/LX470/LX470 SW Application.htm

Donald Le at Dallas Custom Steering Wheel quoted me $279 to recover in leather to factory specs...plus $18 return shipping. If you want extra padding then add $50...but not for me. And if the OEM rubber is loose ("twisting") and/or your steering wheel requires additional repairs then this is another $50.

He told me "4-5 day turn around time"...

Will post up photos after I get it back.

interested in seeing the results. seems like the 100-series is plagued by problems with the factory steering wheel wrap. mine is almost like grabbing a piece of rebar, it's so pitted and gnarly. most Hundy's i seen in parking lots also have this same issue.

I think you will be pleased. Everyone who has seen Donald's work has been impressed. Just another small step in making my 11 year old truck feel a lot younger !
