I asked this question over in the 40 section, but got no answer. I am getting ready to repaint the seat frames of my 7/69 to receive Shane's new covers. My question is, are the pictured ( rings and pins) painted pewter, or are they zinc plated? I can not tell, even with a magnifying glass. Thanks! Brendon

Never heard or read that Toyota zinc plated anything on their cars at that time, so I´m pretty sure ( 120 % ;) ) that they are painted.
Cheers
Peter

My earlier cruisers these brackets were painted the same color as the tub. On the 68 they were painted pewter:cheers:

You guys are the BEST! 76 views on the 40 side, and not even a hello. Pewter paint it is. The pieces were just so worn out that it made me question that they might have been plated. Thanks again.:cheers:Brendon

Here's the start of my seat frame restoration, or maybe call it re-creation.

Looks like you have a little work to do:hmm:.

So that's how they pinned the seat in! Thank you very much for that picture. I put a hitch pin thingy in mine to keep it in place.. never knew there was an existing item.

You mean these were suppose to have cushions on them:hmm: I have a couple of set of early FJ40 seats here in town. I take some pictures of them. The only 25 seats I have here in town have cushions. I get you some pictures, Other than the front inside leg being just a little shorter they are the same seat as the FJ25s. It's just two bad that I don't think Shane's red seat covers will fit these early cruiser:crybaby: The back should work but not the fronts

anyone have a picture of the passenger side seat frame without the bottom cushion on it? I think there is a spring/wire setup to support the cushion similar to a box spring?
The driver seat on my 40 had the springs like a "bed spring." I would assume that they are built the same, but I gave up and had someone else do the passenger seat. I am happy to call and find out if you need me to. :cheers:Brendon

hope this helps. I'm trying to clean up the seats off my 65.

Neither a 65 or a 69 has padding on the seats like the pre 64. No coil springs. I'll check the second from the early FJ40 the first one just has three springs that zig zag from front to back on the bottom. Pictures coming.

This is why I don't think Shane's seat covers will work. The early seats are pretty thin.

My '65 had/has coils (now also has SOR foam + covers), but as with most of the stuff on my rig I can't vouch for originality.

my 64 has coil with foam and Shanes covers :D

Shane's coral covers are fawking awesome :D

you guys are reading it wrong. He's saying pre64 didn't have coil springs. just thin padding.

I guess it wasn't clear that Foxfab (Mike) is talking about the seats in a 59 FJ25. I do understand the confusion since this thread was started with question about a 69. Sorry about that guys.

ya, well this IS an FJ25 forum :D

ok, I finished recreating what I had to work with. So heres what I have, now what do I still need to put cushions on it? I have the SOR grey covers like Steve B has. I'm thinking I'm missing something for the lower cushion to rest on?

The only parts from the old frame that I used were the back sheet metal and the hinges.

Opps

Okay I'll get you some pictures.

It looks like they have a frame work that sits on top of the the three springs in the base. I check my early FJ40 seats and both have this frame work. Coil springs inside the frame work. One of them has been recovered the other one is mainly just the frame work. The original cover and padding is just about gone.
