So I have not pursued "The Story" behind my truck from the guy I bought it from because his dad had owned it and stored it for 10 years. However, I did have the name of the owner prior to that on the pink slip. My intensions were to find some contact info and see what I could find out without being too much of a pest. I figure Mr. Chauncey Acree from Lewiston, CA may have the REAL history on my truck with wild stories and a well documented history...

So I decide to google him today...

Sad. Seems he passed 7 days before I bought the truck. I wonder if he was a cruiser head or just stumbled on this old truck? How long did he own it? Was it a love of his and hated by his wife? Maybe it meant nothing to him? Maybe the kids remember riding around in "The Old Beater".

Wondering if anyone is from around there or knows anyone up there? I imagine it's a small town, everybody knows one another.

If it was important to him, maybe they would want to know where it is now?

OK, I think I must be crazy! Does anyone else think like me or am I a zombie from another planet?

Dom, I think half the fun is finding out the previous history and who owned the truck. I cant believe how many trucks have come out of northern california in that general area. I heard many years ago from Danny Warden, Earl Wardens son that actually worked at stancil motors in placerville CA, which was the major Toyota landcruiiser importer of the day. I think the majority of 45's came into california to Stancil and Holllywood toyota another big toyota dealer in the 60's.These are just things I have gathered over the last 15 years of 45 sickness.By the way I think we are from the same planet!!! YT

Part of owning an old vintage vehicle is the history behind it. I've had some great trucks with some great histories to boot. The original owner of my SWB 45 was the owner of Pabst Brewing and I am very proud of that. It's good to know what the history on the vehicle in case there is some sort of bad karma or juju going on there. It's kind of like finding a significant other..... you want to know what comes with the package.... the entire package.

I don't know about California but Colorado allows you to do a search on a VIN of all previous owners. It's about $2 and they give you the complete history as far back as their records go. Kind of cool.

Good luck Dom.

Alone? Hardly. Think back a couple of years. I actually did just such a story for TT, called Ghosts in the Machine. ;)

I've been trying to find the PO of my truck for the last year. The guy I bought it from...Dom, you know who I'm referring to...just flipped it and didn't know any history and wouldn't give me the original sellers info. Sure would be helpful. I would really like to know the color code he used when he repainted it. I think the PO was in the military and or something and moved away. Anybody in San Diego recognize my truck or know the original owner . He is listed on the title as "Castrorains Armand" and signed by Financial 21 Community Credit Union in San Diego. It also had personal plates "73 FJ40" on it but those had expired a while ago. Another couple unique identifiers are the split hood that doesn't match the year, the original Warn "Bellview" winch and the windshield mounted spot lights. It looks like Castrorains was on this site to post two or three threads but then stopped checking the site so the emails I sent him were never read. Maybe one of the admins would forward my info on to him....I'll have to try that.

Gonna try the google search again...didn't have much luck when I tried 8 months ago.
Below is a pic of what the truck looked like when I originally purchased it.

legion, pretty sure carfax only goes back to around 82 or somewhere close to that year.

You can run the VIN number through the DMV system and see the list of owners. Know a cop that can do it?

I posted up once on Craig's List and someone looked all the info up for me for free.

Thanks buddy. I contacted the admin on here to see if he had any registration info (email) or phone to contact the guy also.

Carfax will many times yield you were it was registered, and you can call or send a letter to the DMV in that state and see if they will release the information. I did this on a car that I had owned and wrecked. It meant a lot to me as it was my first car. I tracked it down 3 weeks after it was totaled, and it was not 3 houses away from my parents sold as a unwrecked car... boy did they love the story i had for them...
