Starting another build. Base platform is 4' x 6'. The goal is to keep this as light as possible so that I can pull this with the 40.

Some progress. Would have had it on wheels etc but was shipped the wrong length axle

Good start. I have a few questions;

1. Are you welding or bolting the unistrut on? Welding will make it more rigid.

2. Tire size planned?

3. Will this be a "kitted" build or something you load and unload each time?

4. Anything cool?

To follow up on your questions above and our conversation last night

Bottom is welded and the cross bars are bolted. Thought is I want to camp out of it and see if changes are needed/wanted.

Swapping over my 285’s from my other camper trailer

Building this as light as I can so the 40 can tow it. RTT on top and load in/out boxes for camping. I would love to have it set up with slide out drawers like my other build but fear that will be too much weight. Can always test it with more weight later and see what the 40 can handle

No nothing cool and pretty basic

Subscribed to this thread! I'm thinking of doin the same thing this summer both as a "learn to weld" project and to save myself the time of getting all the family camping gear strapped down to the roof of the '40. Are you thinking of swapping axles to use the same bolt pattern as what you have on your truck?

Looking forward to seeing how your build comes out!

When I ordered my axle (from Southwest wheel) I ordered it with the same pattern, 6 on 5.5. My older build you see in the background has 80 wheels on it and plan to swap those over.

I too am "learning" to weld. I find myself hitting one nice weld for every three right now. Definitely a great learning opportunity.

Some good progress today. Started out cutting off and replacing a spring hanger that was the wrong width. Then welding spring perches and installing the axle. Flipped it over and installed the RTT. Wired lights and installed the tongue jack.

Fab’d up and installed an adjustable height awning

Awning is one thing I want to add to my trailer.. just need to figure it out. My trailer (m416) has a lid that opens to access inside. Awning complicates things quickly.
That does complicate it for sure. When I built my first "mil camper" the M101A1 I always wanted a permanent awning on it but after 15years never did it.

Here is an idea for your side table.

First things first,,, You are on IG. Cant believe it 😂🤣😂

That is a serious table. I like it

Ha! Thanks for the reminder....

Extended the tongue, added cross braces and paint.

First trip with the new build. I am very pleased with it. Pulled perfectly on the road and set up was awesome.
