Hello
I have a late 80's TBI 350 (I am going to put a carb on) and an NV4500 with a transfer case adapter.
I have a few questions about the swap though-
Do I need to fab a new cross member?
Can the transfer case be kept in the stock location and the same drive-shafts reused? (just had mine rebuilt)
Also do any (other than AA) commercially available motor mounts work for a SBC into a FJ55? from what I read it seems like the fj55 has a wider frame than a 40 and you need to fab your own mounts?
Do I need to upgrade the radiator?

I think thats it- Any other advice you can think of is much appreciated. I know people don't like the TBI but I have it already and I can always swap it out later. I am no stranger to engine swaps and have done quite a few on various cars at this point.

THANKS!

Blake,

You'll need to make a cross member. I'm not sure how long the 4500 is, but it is a big transmission, so you'll have to play with where you place the motor, you might get lucky with the transfer case, but I doubt it. Again, on the driveshafts, all depends on where you place the motor in the frame.

If your rad. is in good shape, it should cool fine. A shroud will help.

Good luck with it!

Edit.... I removed my statement about the frame width, I was thinking about the difference between the 60 and 55.

Just think about radiator and fan room. I cant use an electric fan that can push any air or use a fan clutch. I do have an older SBC with the long water pump so maybe you don't have that issue. Just one more inch would be nice! "phrasing"
