Saw this 100 Dakar race truck with front coil springs

That ain't NOS stuff 🤣

Thanks for adding more pics! I'm telling you there's a market for this conversion, well at least I would be in line lol
What conversion - running torsion bars and coilovers simultaneously? I can’t imagine very many people would want that outside of the Dakar and other similar races.

It was theorized that then running the torsion bar was class rules and they had to do it but I don't know

Definitely class rules.

In the IG post it said it used lightweight TB's (AHC?) along with the added coils/shocks. I'm curious to know exactly what they gained with that combo.

If I’m not mistaken, the custom long travel setup that is shown in this thread was estimated to be roughly $10k, if it were to be turned into a kit. Whereas the ability to have a 6ā€ lift with crazy flexibility on a 100 is enticing, a SAS kit can be had for probably half and obtain much the same gains. All that aside, what we see here is still a super sweet setup that is cooler than mine.

Sadly Feryn is not racing at the Dakar in their 100 or 200 this year. They got dealt some rulings from FIA.

If this article is accurate, it seems like a chicken**** ruling by the FIA.

I'd expect you'd need to add some significant strengthening to the shock mounting points if you went with coilovers and deleted the T/bars. The shock mounts would then be supporting all the load previously being supported at the T/bar mounts.

Does anybody know what shocks those are?
The limit straps on Dakar vehicles are usually for regulations as the suspension travel is strictly limited.
Most European style dampers and setups do not have problems with being fully extended and infact many have internal hydraulic rebound stops to prevent any damage occuring.

Here is my post from the other thread.

Hello. The Toyota Factory supported Dakar rally vehicle 100 series and 200 series up until atleast 2017 used twin KYB dampers at all corners. From what I know these are 46mm piston units with internal hydraulic bump stop (cup and cone) and remote reservoirs with 3 way adjusters - high/low adjuster on reservoir - rebound adjuster on piston shaft.
The only part I am not certain of is whether they actually always used internal hydraulic bump stops or not.

This is basically a large rear damper from a MX or off-road motorcycle. Similar to most European dampers.

I believe The factory Toyota Land Cruisers in the production class for Dakar are now using BOS dampers from France. Yes this is the same BOS shocks that started making Mountain Bike suspension. They also recently won the WRC

The 100 series used Tokico, not KYB.
