Lordbater that's akin to picking out a car for Jay Leno, telling Bobby Flay how to cook, or telling Obama how to run the white house.....errr (ok scratch that last one I would give that a go)

anyway.....he happens through my neck of the woods so I will definitely try to put out the flames on my "Commander Bridge"

happy 4th to all

yup, just don't try it with Bud Light, I bet it will burn better than White Lightening...
:)

I had a happy 4th, took a cab to my favorite ice house, had some BBQ and brews, got a bucket of said brews and walked 2 blocks to see the fireworks.. very nice.

I had to give it a shot when I saw it.. Thanks Lee!..
I like a good ale although I don't stray from my goto beer often. If they would have let me, I would have taken it to the parking lot and took a pic of it with the LC... :)

Not old enough to buy beer? :grinpimp:

I've got that one under my belt by a few years.. They just frown on people walking out the door with an open beer..

I shoulda wore my baggy pants and I could have just stuffed it and 10 more in a my pockets.. :)

Ooops, didn't notice it was open....

This is my favorite thread..I read Lee's story for 3 hours to my huz as we drove out to see about a 40. Needless to say - after 3 hours of reading my 11 year old and my husband were completely hooked on your adventures.
I saw the 40 that would soon be mine - the heavens opened and Im pretty sure I heard angels singing. Thanks for sharing the good and bad..you managed to captivate my whole family and sell them on my dreams of 40 greatness..

Minor filler + relevant beer tech and off road recovery tech. As the next chapter is related to Missoula, MT I thought this might be appropriate. My mother in law just left today after 11 days of bliss(?). It wasn't all that bad. Took her to Big Sky Brewing  a couple of times. They even had a brewery T-shirt with a hi-lift jack on it for some reason. 2xl or small though. She enjoyed free Moose Drool from the source, as well as an Oatmeal Cream Stout. I know a place in Lansing, MI, where she lives, which sells Moose Drool too: Horrocks Farm Market. Maybe she'll go buy some some time. I relayed the basics of this story to her while we were at the brewery. I don't think she's a Land Cruiser convert, but she was getting more comfortable with it all by the end of her visit. I think seeing her 4 and 7 year old granddaughters operate a winch to pull a tree off a mountain road helped.

Warn 8000 winch, Amsteel Blue 5/16" *orange* synthetic line, Prolink 55.

Saw a nice blue 40 in the parking lot of the Missoula airport when we dropped her off too.

Thats cool well done sir

I've been following your story and I'd have to say that I'm hooked. It reminds of the first 40 that I got in my senior year of high school. It was a 72 vintage with 3 on the floor. I took it everywhere. I recently bought a 71 40 and I'm in the process of fixing it up. Looking forward to your next installment.

Catching Up

are you ok there Lee? just checking...

I'm fine. At a family reunion in south Texas. Haven't seen my son and his family (here from British Columbia) for 3 years, including a new granddaughter I'm seeing for the first time. Surrounded by little kids and not much time for writing, but I'll get back to it soon.

In the mean time, as far as the rustbucket tale goes, The Turtle and I are still in Montana, refueling on the outskirts of Butte.

Thats cool well done sir

x2, great pics of your girls, and beautiful country. Thanks for taking up the slack while I'm temporarily out of service.

Angels singing..LOL. I'll have to remember that line the next time I buy another truck that I don't need. Congrats on finding your dream 40. From the photos, it looks like an excellent score.

Thanks. My first 40 was a '67 with 3 on the tree. Shoulda never let her go. Old iron is the best.

I guess this post wouldn't be complete without a 40 photo, and some cute girls, just to keep it legit...

Wow, long overdue reunion for sure...enjoy that time it is more important than the peanut gallery here.

I am caught up again, missed the old-timer debate but I can see him in my mind clearly, reminds me of the old man that owned the property next door when I was a kid, he just didn't dress as neatly.

I forgot to enjoy the journey on a recent cruiser and kid outing, reading this thread again makes me pause and vow to do better at that.

Since we're sort of revisiting kids and cruisers, here's one of my daughter in the driver's seat. She's in college now, learned to drive at age 13 in the 62.
