I have driven with the :princess: through deep water without a snorkel and she was a little worried when the water reached the top of the wheel wells. A snorkel might put her at ease (or she might worry that it will encourage me to go deeper).

Bad news, at least for me, someone hopped on it before I did, it was at Yota yard in Colorado... which one of you was it ************

Well whoever it was quick ninja like moves... ENJOY!

Man, I was just getting ready to tell you to jump on that snorkel before someone else did. Those are spendy units @ new retail price.

I thought that picture looked familiar! Saw the craigslist ad but the guy never responded when I asked about the snorkel

this is what happens when you sit and talk about things,,,,i would have been down that yard as soon as i spotted it,,,not posting on a forum...lol.

Happens all too often. I always seem to find the best deals when I don't have the money to spend, and no deals when I do have the money.

Well I live about 5 hrs away from the salvage yard so I wasn't there in person. The other thing I was worried about was finding the parts and pieces for it to go on my rig. I didn't want to spend $150 for a snorkel and then end up having to buy a whole new one just to be able to get everything I need to bolt it up correctly.

I think if I would have been there I would have been able to see everything and I would have just got it all and taken it home.

You could have given me a call or PM... I've put one on and still have the template.

It doesn't use nutserts - though you can use some in the A pillar, those aren't the hard ones to get to. It uses studs mounted in the snorkel through holes in the fender. A snubby 4" ratchet wrench with a 12mm??? socket on it works fine in there.

Bring some tape - put 2 layers of the tape on the sharp steel edge of the hole you have to reach through into the fender. Not doing so can be painful - experience here.

Tie the socket wrench or gear wrench to your wrist with a piece of twine. If you drop it in the fender - good luck getting it back.

Anyway, now you know for the next time you spot one.

Slee sells the genuine new ones for $400 - so the guy trying to get $450 for what may be a knock-off...

Oh, and there are knock-off snorkels out there. Some overseas company made molds from a Safari snorkel - some even include the Safari name in the mold - and is cranking out knock-offs in inferior materials. Watch out for those.

Fun times.

I probably should have given you a call right off the bat, live and learn. I am not in a huge hurry to get a snorkel but thought if I could get one on the cheap why not.

I was hoping that someone on the board would have ended up with it...

With the time & fuel to drive to Colorado, pull it off of the truck there, pay whatever the salvage place wants for it, time and fuel back - it'd about be a wash compared to just ordering one and having it shipped to you - or better yet, mudshipped if you're patient. By the time all of that is done - the new one might cost you $100 more than a used version of unknown origins. So - don't worry, you didn't miss out on much.

I've run into several people with somewhat modified 80s that -aren't- on here, but all of them are aware of the place. A few of them came in, landed in chat, got scared. A few of them simply decided we're all nuts with the maintenance, etc. But they all seem to know what 'IH8MUD' is.
