Some back story: for the life of me I could not figure out why I kept ripping my drivers front motor mount bushing. I thought for a while maybe the frame was tweaked or somthing. I had tried replacing the front drivers mount beforeand it immediately tore when I tightened it down. I figured it out why! my motor mount situation was not correct. The rear passenger mount in the picture on the right below (one out of the car) was the one I had originally installed with the puck style bushing also pictured. Turns out this was for an fj55. I replaced the rear passenger one with the correct style and some bushings from cruiserteq and it has corrected the torn bushing from the front drivers. I can sleep better knowing I dont have a half torn front bushing.

After a crap ton of rain yesterday my attention has been shifted from a glass bowl fuel filter to my windshield gasket. Seriously forcast was 0% then all of a sudden at 2pm it started pooring rain. A huge cell of rain and storm just sat over Ocracoke for 2 hours. Makes me glad I had the soft top on when I drove to work this morning. (photo below Jeeps doing silly jeep things infront of my house... washing the sand out of my driveway.) The upside is my soft top didnt leak at all. Windshield did of course. Who has attempted a windshield gasket themselves? any tips? I know SOR has the earlier gasket FJ40 and FJ45 Windshield - Specter Off-Road - https://www.sor.com/cat/120. I need to replace mine as every time it rains it leaks like a strainer. I dont really have the Luxury of taking it someplace to get fixed unless its an all day drive. I annoyed that it ruined a radio... but thats my bad I should have installed it under the glove box. upside is I found a cool old clarion radio that I can slap in. I like having my morning news radio when I check the surf.

Another fun update: house closes on thursday! this might become a DIY home thread with some fj40 sprinkled in soon haha.

Maybe some time soon my next quick project is the windsheild gasket. I bought the gasket, lock, and the lock tool from SOR same link I have above in the post. figured it was not too bad of a price for just over 100$. Hopfully I wont break anything... Any tips for installation ? I think my goal is to take my time on it and not rush.

Oh ..moving off the island?

Yea...heeps are so silly
No just down the road haha. We were renting a house here and just bought one. I am excited its a home built in 1900. Probubly has ship wreck parts in it too as much of the houses from about 1780s - 1930s had ship wreck lumber.

Congrats on the new digs!!

All the best at closing today.
Still driving the 40 off island to the closing?

If you can, I would take the windshield frame off to do this and do it on some padded sawhorses or something. That’s how I’ve done them and find it easier than on vehicle. I usually have my wife help, at least to hold the frame in place or a little push where I need a 3rd hand. I used the rope method with a paracord type material. Seemed a good strength and thickness. I use windex as a lube for frame to seal and seal to glass. It evaporates quickly and I used a lot sprayed on.

Thanks! I have been busy with moving and the first day of school lately! Unfortunately we didn't take it to closing because we decided to take a pickup to get things to repair the house like kitchen cabinates and such.

Congrats on the new digs!!
Thanks!!! my wife and I officially own a 124 year old home.

Congrats. Very happy for you.
Thanks!! unfortunutly the move coincided with the first day back to school so my brain has been mush lately. but the home is great!

Top tip: lay the windshield flat on a level surface use wood battens to hold the glass level with the windshield frame while you do this.
Windshield. the pad is not too hard I have done that one. I still have not gotten around to replacing the windsheild rubber.
Fantastic pro tip! I am going to tackle this some time soon! I am happy to have gotten the gasket from SOR as I could not find it anywhere else.

Yeah I was trying to avoid taking the windshield frame off but with the soft top now it actually should not be so bad. a few screws I think I will have to drill out though.

House pictures with the salt wagon??

Not alot of updating with the land cruiser. One annoying quirk lately it seems there might be a dead spot in the starter as occasionally it just wont engage or anything. I had a friend pull start me yesterday. I thought at first it was a battery cable but after a few wacks with a hammer to starter it started right up. So I might be buying a new starter soon. I wish I could find a hand crank to crank start it when it did that! I bought a non Oem starter and I feel like I should have paid the extra dough for toyota... you see it all the tume BUY OEM... so the only two non toyota parts have failed me...... valve seals and starter... well actually I have a city racer alternator that seems to be doing well.

Below are some things of note

Saw a really nice fj60 below

Brought whats left of my old fj80 to the new house
IMG_8766.jpg

Sanded, mopped, and painted floors

and vacuumed before paint. I had the shop vac witch sucked....haha

Went with this green color almost like the fj40 emerald green
IMG_8746.jpg

Yesterday we did the kitchen cabinets and installed a dishwasher. I finally feel like a real adult at 34.... excited about counter tops and dishwashers haha.
anyways I apologize for lack of fj40 updates. once I get settled I will post more. Hope everyone is doing well!

Having a new starter is good. You can "rebuild" your old one so to speak. The big copper contacts in inside the solenoid get pitted from the arching - you can file them flat or rotate them to a new contact place. You can polish the commutator (crocus cloth on a wide flat file) and then re-establish the clearance undercut between the contacts, new brushes or at least clean the guides/springs.

I like older homes, they have a proven history of survival, unlike new ones that wash off the mountains at the first real rain storm.

unfortunately it is a new (when I put the 2f together) non oem unit from cruiser teq but I will try that first although I think I saw a Non reduction one like this that is toyota for 120$ that is new.

Thats how I feel about old homes here! this one went through all of the worst storms we have had over 124 years. alot of the oldest island locals talk about the 44 storm as one the worst other than dorian in 2019. (bad luck to say the H word for those spinning storms in storm season)
Your house looks amazing. Do you have to go off the island for building materials?
Thanks I am pretty happy with the purchase! its nice to have more space for sure.

A lot of things you should just go off the island for. you can order lumber from kempsville and they delever to the island but it may be a day or so. Its most of the time easier to go off the island to get stuff. we have a small hardware store that has small things but not really alot other than screws and nails haha.

honestly alot of the places they do the Maine cabin masters show reminds me of here at least logistically.
