As I wait in my Slee rear bumper to arrive, I thought about the lugs I will use to secure the spare RW to tire carrier. Do I need to buy more of the TRD lugnuts or can I use the stock lugs I have laying around? Really want to avoid carrying a second "key" lug nut for the spare. Too easy to lose it on trail.

The RW wheels use a very different lug nut than the OEM ones. Yes, I would get more of the splined lug nuts for mounting to the carrier.

I would also immediately ditch any and all "locking" lug nuts. They are a nuisance and provide zero security. I have 2 of the special spline sockets for the RW lugs, one stays in the truck, the other in the garage.

Thanks for the input. Definitely prefer idea of the spline lugs versus the "lock" lug.

Now does anyone have some extra TRD lugs you dont need? Lol. I only found the whole 20 piece set on line.

Still pretty overpriced, but this is how I got rid of the "locking" lug nuts that were on my RWs, and got a spare socket at the same time:

Go to HomeDepot, get a package of the biggest heat shrink tubing they sell, and put a layer on the outside of the socket(s). Red makes them easy to find in a toolbox, and it keeps them from scratching the rims in use.

forgive my ignorance. What are RW wheels?

Rock Warrior wheels. They were offered as a package from Toyota on select Tundras a few years ago. They are also available from the dealer I believe.

Great idea.

They look like this...

There are two formats of the chrome spline drive lugs.. long and short. Long will fit but isn’t necessary.

Also a major reason not to run the locking lug is it doesn’t have a spinning cone seat like the others in the set. These rotating seats help set the torque correctly and avoid damaging/galling the cone seat in the wheel face, which is the big issue.

Great points. Ordered spline lugs to replace out the locks and hold that spare on the Slee. Thanks for all the input folks.
