Anyone have a PPG paint code for the 621 Rustic Green color? I went to English Color yesterday to buy some paint to repaint my 40 and they couldn't find the color. I search on AutoColorLibrary Color Chip Selector and they don't have a listing for 621 as a Toyota color. Everywhere I searched doesn't have a listing for 621.

Thanks,
Nick

Just go to your paint store and tell them it's toyota 621. They looked it up for me in about 3 minutes and I was out the door 30 min later with a gallon of Rustic green base.

621 IS the paint-code. It is your shops job to look up the code to whatever they sell (ppg, lesonal, etc..).

I used Lesonal base (wanda) and then I used PPG DELTRON clear.

That's what I thought too. I'll have to try another store as the guy I talked to said he couldn't find it with 621, I'll try again.

Why mix systems?

I keep reading you should never mix systems, even paint and primer. I would be really wary of mixing a base and clear.

But I'm a painting newb at best.

It does not matter what base clear you use as long as they work together chemically. I've been at professional paint shops that have used all kinds of crap, including spraying ANY dark color over primer to help the actual base coat cover better....

...just have to make sure you know what chemicals you are using so you don't curdle up a base coat, etc...

Vinegar is vinegar, whether it's wal*mart or walgreens.

very old thread i know, but to clarify, when searching the google, try searching for T621 or ppg number 44682

Reviving this thread because I’m moving to color on my repaint and want to get this right. Problem I’m encountering is pics of ‘rustic green’ land cruisers vary in color. Possibly because some aren’t rustic green. Has anyone used PPG 44682 on a recent-ish repaint? Can you post a massive amount of pics here or message me and text pics?

I’m ordering a sample but still want some real world experience if anyone can share.

Omni 44682 is the “right” color.

The problem is this: the tinting mediums the industry had and used in the 70s don’t exist anymore because they were pretty toxic. Like it or not. The formulas that exist now are approximations based probably on computer scans when the paint manufacturers created/converted to modern tinting media. This is a pretty common issue with old cars and their paint.

Even new cars have adjustment cards the body shop uses to match existing paint.

After a lot of hand wringing I ended up buying paint from Revolt online and just sent Tammy the OEM code. The paint I got from them was pretty freakin good. Better than the PPG imho. Before I paint the exterior I need to buy another gallon from them. I used quite a bit on tinting the bedliner for the underside and interior.

If I wanted to adjust it I’d add more yellow/ochre to the entire batch to yellow it up a bit.

SMH. These forums struggle with adding photos from a mobile browser.

Thanks for the photos. Suppose I’ll follow up as well. Used PPG, just installed the hard top sides yesterday, I’m happy with the color. It’s a bit dusty in these photos

The other issue is decades of age - fading, oxidation, and even the curing of the paint. You're never going to match original paint 100% accurately with new paint - even for a modern paint.
