I am either going to sell my 100 series (or trade) or put time and money into the restoration of the rear area where the rust is bad enough the frame cannot support the install of a daggum trailer hitch. The undercarriage has surface rust in general, but the rear area is where it is worst. It's a 2004 with 255K miles, a lot of which were racked up by the previous owner who drove it mostly in snowy West Virginia. I reside in SC. I guess if anyone has fabricated or welded something in a similar situation that would work, I'm all ears. I would like to keep this vehicle...Thanks in advance ;)

I'm thinking you need to go somewhere else, the few pics above don't show anything terrible, unless I'm not seeing it.
maybe some better pics of the actual frame and where the hitch actually mounts

Yeah those photos don't show the important parts of the frame either. Mechanic was probably frustrated because he's trying to install a generic bolt on hitch designed for domestic pickup trucks on the 100 series instead of just getting an OEM hitch.

That's a rusty sombitch alright but not the worst on this forum and not going to suffer catastrophic failure any time soon.

I don't see any photos. There was a 100 FS here locally last year advertised as having a compromised frame due to rust. I didn't look at it to confirm.

For sure it's more common with Tacomas. Also 3rd gen 4Runners, Tundras, pretty much anything around here where the roads are salted. Thankfully I'm gone during winter so my 80 is rust free.
