I have a 85/86 4runner IFS, the cargo area is starting to rust where attention is needed before it takes over. There are a few spots that are getting bad. All the rust is on the cargo floor. Any thoughts or suggestions? I have searched for information and all that comes up is rear quarter panels or tail gate.:bang: All help is positive, Thanks.

My money was on where your exhaust was dumping out, till I saw your location...

Not much I can say other than start stripping it off and re-coating it... That's the only way I know to rescue metal.

Pics would help.

here are some pics, the driver side is the bad side. I can see daylight through it. Want to know if there is a way to fix it and retain the rib look? If not what is the best way to repair it? All suggestions welcomed, thanks.

Please tell me your exhaust dumps all the way out...

Broke off tips will kill any and all sheet metal the exhaust fumes can reach under a truck.

And, uhh... You don't want to know what that looks like from underneath...

EDIT: Unless you've used the truck and skraped the paint from the inside?

But unless you live near the beach and have a ton of salt in the air, to me that doesn't make sense?

If you're lucky, and it's only surface, and only on the top... Just sand and strip it to bare metal,
then primer and paint?

I'm more interested in the rear seat delete plate... More pics of that! :D

Take a wire wheel to the top and bottom and see just how much metal is left.... Then go from there... If it's bad, I would cut it out and weld in a good piece out of another truck...

That is the way it came. The title says 4Runner UT, instead of SUV. I believe the UT stands for Utility Truck, something to do with SUVs are taxed more? Not sure if it is right, but that is what I was told. I'll put some pics up later.

Thanks for the input on the rust guys, My exhaust is in poor shape, I think cutting it out is best and replacing the exhaust as well. Does anyone/place sell the ribbed steel that they put in the toyota trucks or 4runners for replacement?
