Sorry for the boring post but found a 2005 LX with 150K miles and could use some opinions. Was in NY for 10 years and FL for the last 4. How does the undercarriage look? TIA

What rust?

Honestly, I'd look really closely at every component of that AHC system, including all of the lines.

Looks pretty damn good considering its original homeland.

Other than some of the AHC components, nothing jumped out at me as glaringly terrible. Would probably be very serviceable.

But, if you're living in FL, why look at a truck that has any rust on it at all?

I have been looking for weeks and have not found a FL (or southern) truck with the right combination (for me) of mileage, price and age. And even the ones I have found in FL, TX, GA, etc, have been brought down from up north.

If you were to ask advice, I'd suggest opening up your mileage criteria. That would be toward the lowest on the list of priorities with these, for me. You're infinitely better off buying a higher mileage but clean and well maintained truck than one with low mileage and a rusty belly or lacking in needed repairs. I've owned 4 100s at this point. First one had 120k, 2nd had 248k, 3rd had ~230k, current has 267k and I'd rather any of mine with clean frames/records over a lower mileage truck without. As of 2020, the newest 100 is still 12+ years old and regardless of mileage, it's going to need a lot of the same maintenance (if undone) that a 150k+ truck will.

That's great advice and you're the second guy on this forum to basically tell me the same thing. I appreciate that. I had actually narrowed my search down to an '05 in SC with 193K miles and an '06 in South FL with 161K miles. Then I stumbled onto this one today. My buddy/neighbor owns it. All the looking around online and running reports and researching has me worn out and stressed out. And I think I will roll with the one two streets over if it checks out.

I generally agree with the @MongooseGA quote above, but I would have no problems owning that truck if the rest of the deal is right.

Could be just a covid thing, but good 03+ trucks are tough to find at a reasonable price and that rust looks surprisingly minimal.

By my standards that looks really good when you consider its age and where it spent 10 years.

If put up those pics of my rig there would be a collective freak out from the group.

That rust doesn't look bad at all and easily knocked off and coated if you were so inclined. Out of my short time here (and even compared to my own rig) the pictures I've seen posted prior to are worse than that one. Just my $0.02.

I (living in Atlanta) was able to find mine in Orlando. It was a GA car originally and then moved down to FL. However, I have been looking for almost a year so it does take time and patience.

That rust wouldn't scare me away if the rest of the truck checked all the boxes for me. Pretty minor, IMO.

My truck is starting to look super new...from all the new parts...do it!
Jk, defintely want to check all the key areas to ensure structural and component integrity. Frame, brake components, ahc, fuel system, exhaust system, cooling system.

s*** did I just list everything in the vehicle.

I'm from Maryland so that looks spotless to me. Hose that undercarriage down with Fluid Film twice a year and drive the snot out of it for the next 20 years

Frankly there are probably more 2005‘s worse than that one than better. If that’s the worst part of the car I would probably consider it if the price is right. A couple weekends with a wire brush on your drill, a can or Por15 and some Waxoyl would make a you feel a lot better.
