Hello folks,
just wanted to post up a Meet n Greet Thread for just the wagon run on this years Rubithon and keep the chatter to ourselves and leave the main thread for the event to Eric and the other things that are important for all the participants.

If you have something that you are wondering about bringing, or trying to make room for, post up...

There is over 25 trucks this year, I'm pretty sure someone will have it already in their kit. Less to pack is always good, less to set up and tear down is even better.

That doesn't mean leave it at home and mooch, but there's probably going to be a PETT canopy you could share, or a table, or spare grill to borrow if you supply something in return. (e.g. your own wag bags, or a cutting board, tongs and tin foil or zip lock bags)

I'm coming from So Cal with my 8 year old son for his first time. It'll be my 4th Rubithon.

Looking forward to an awesome event. Remember safety/ seat belts/ communication/ gloves/ sun block/ water/ etc.

^^^^^Where is that picture on the Rubicon? I missed that part!

Subscribing-I'll try to answer questions too.

Tom here, helping out on Trail Committee again this year. Looking forward to it.

Steve here, last year was the first time for me and my wife in my 60 and my son Johnny (@JohnnyOshow22 ) in his 80, and we're both back for another go. This year my other son Justin (@justintpryor ) will throw his 80 at the trail, too. Johnny's 21 (just...) and Justin's 22. Really looking forward to seeing everyone and making new friends. Since I'm a grizzled one-time veteran I can say with certainty if this is your first time you've definitely made the right decision to go, and to go with this group of great people. Thanks Pablo for starting his thread.

It should be noted, there will not be a CB channel for the wagon run. It's ham radio only. We'll share the frequency at the start, but likely 146.400. We should have a couple of hand helds to lend out. The run will be a good chance to evaluate whether you want to run ham radios in the future.

Hey all, names Justin.

Like @MountNGoat said, I am his oldest son (brother to @JohnnyOshow22) and a first timer this year.
That being said, I am super excited! I tore out my second row seats today because I was bored. :meh:

Based on recent events with the :rainbow: :rainbow:DOUBLE MF'N RAINBOW!!! :rainbow::rainbow: gang , I know this is going to be kick ass.

:steer: I will get a pic of the lambo up tmw :steer:

Counting down the days until I can do this....

My wife and I are back for our third Rubithon. She will be driving the Loon to Buck Island Lake segment for her first time behind the wheel on this trail. Can't wait to get back out there and catch up with old friends, as well as meet some new ones. For those doing this for the first time...nothing to worry about. Couldn't think of a better group to do this with. You'll have a blast and definitely be back for more.

I will have a collection of spare 80 series parts with me (F&R axles, drive shafts, birfs, tie rod, drag link, TREs) so if you don't have room for something no worries. Bring the 99% DEET!

You mean I just wasted $45 on a new CB that works???

:crybaby:

I don't have much for trail spares but I'll have room to carry some for others if necessary...

.

What ever you spent, you wasted. Even the Rubicon trail itself has installed a repeater at Spider Lake. I don't want to speak for rick, but we'll pick some available but unused 2m frequency and comms will be on that. Like I said, 146.400 would be a good one to have pre-programmed.

I have my HAMheld,... The CB thing was just some "recreational tinkering". Now if I can get my AC system working again...

:bang:

Last year my uncle was my co pilot, this year he decided to take his 60. Just finished his lockers, installing the sliders and modding his front bumper. It should make it in time.

Early on we had a Hundy registered, After getting her ready, she got side swiped and rear axle was bent, so she's out and the 60 is in.

Super excited to see new faces and see the Pryor family again. They were the first ones we've officially met because we were stuck on the road construction at ice house road early morning.

Looking forward to see Anthony and his gang as well, and the whole leadership team...

John

They aren't the best but a boafeng UV-5R from amazon is way better than nothing for trail coms and theyre cheap too.

After recently seeing what a huge difference they make on the handheld Ham, I ordered a few of these, https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DTQ4A6M/?tag=ihco-20, for $14 from Amazon, for our Baofengs that Johnny mentions. The stubby little antenna on the radio itself doesn't do well, and the longer ones you can put on it make it unwieldy inside the truck.

Andrew, am I correct that the repeater operates in UHF and not 2m?

Radio Frequencies

Ham Radio Frequencies commonly used in the Rubicon

146.805 -.600 PL123.0
The KA6GWY repeater, covers the west slope of El Dorado County and the Sacramento area.

145.350 (repeater transmitter), odd split to 146.205 (repeater receiver), PL123.0
The Tahoe Basin KA6GWY repeater, linked 24/7 to the 805 ELD repeater, coverage in the Tahoe Basin.

146.805 simplex, no PL
This is the repeater output frequency of the KA6GWY repeater. Nice to have so that you can talk to
your friends right in front of you, still listen to the repeater, but not tie it up when simplex will work just fine.

444.9875 +5.00 PL156.7
The Rubicon repeater located near Spider Lake, coverage on all of the Rubicon Trail except east of Barker
Meadows OHV trail.

444.9875 +5.00 PL 107.2
Same as RUBI except that when using this PL it links to 805ELD and 805 TAH.

444.9875 simplex, PL107.2
This is the repeater output frequency of the Spider repeater. Nice to have so that you can talk to your
friends right in front of you, still listen to the repeater, but not tie it up when simplex will work just fine.
Note, PL is used because some users decode PL on their handheld radios.
