So, I had some down time and I tore off the old Weber and finally installed my JimC carb. I cruised through the reinstall with numerous beer breaks and I got cocky. I get it all buttoned up and go to reattache the linkage and when it's installed per FSM pics, etc., the pedal is all the way on the floor. What gives?

I know this has to be something so simple and when my brain and hands thaw out, I'm sure I will laugh about it.

See attached pics. I have the rod running vertical on the firewall to the right of the rod that runs horizontal to the carb. I have rod (78013) running under the horizontal rod (78105) to the ball on the carb. With that all hooked up, I have about 5mm of pedal travel until it hits the floor. Could I have incorrect rods

I will post photos as soon as I can shrink them down, although they don't really shed a lot of light on the sitch.

Thanks,
Phil

sounds like you have pulled the internal wire too far at rest... likely was cut previously for weber install.

have you tried to mount the external casing further down? In other words, connect the very end of the internal cable to the carb throttle linkage. Then mount the outer cable at the relaxed phase (the pedal will be all the way out) to the fixed mounting point of the carb. You may have to actually cut the outer cable housing back some to be able and finally mount it.

Thanks for the response, Sorry, just to level set, I have an 87 that is all rod, so I didn't think I had any cable. It looks like there's a rod from the pedal through the firewall to a vertical rod up the firewall (engine side) to a horizontal rod to the carb, to a small rod that runs to the ball on the carb.

Is there something else that I am missing?

Ok, so I got a reply in the main post areas....could the PO have the vertical rod 78105 installed backwards? Meaning I need to swap the ends that connect to the rod to the carb and the rod that runs vertical?

If by backwards you mean the the 78105 rod rotated in such a way the ends are up not down that would make sense why the pedal is on the floor.

i.e. IPC shows the rod ends as / \ and if what you have installed is \ / then your statement sounds correct. Flip it 180* and it should work.

Thanks for all the help guys. I found out that the PO cut the tab closest to the firewall and rewelded it in the incorrect place, so I am search of a new tork rod. Give a shout if anyone has and extra laying around.

Happy Holidays all!

is that rod 78104? is yours too short or something? could sleeve it and weld it to length pretty easy

It is actually rod 78105, the PO cut the tab at the firewall end of that rod and rotated it 45 degress or so clockwise. I am getting a replacement from JimC.

Thanks and Merry Christmas.

so. one less thing to look for on sunday Yeah! Congrats on getting one from a stand up cruiser vendor. you'll be taken care of with jim.

X2 on JimC, his product, support, etc. I can't wait to get Gerty running again. Also, I'll be looking to resmog some stuff on the LC as soon as I do some more researching on what exactly I want/need...charcoal canister, A/C idle up, etc. So once I have done that, I'll post up a wish list to see if anybody close has any goods.

Phil
