Osage,

Dang if you didn't already prove my theory on why we need an old cruiser. I've got 3 boys under 10 and I always thought an FJ40 would be the perfect first vehicle for my boy. They have the cool and tough factor and with low enough gears the engine will blow before they go too fast.

Where are in KS? I wnet ot school in Baldwin and spent years fishing in the Alma area on a buddies ranch. Best fishing in the world! 28K acres dosen't hurt. I've gotten more than 1 4X4 stuck out there. I'm in AZ now and miss the fishing, is sucks here!

I'm going to direct the wife to this thread so she can see the light!

Thanks!

Matt

hey

Me and my dad are doing the same thing. Only thing different is im 33 and he's turning 60 this year. It's never too late to spend some time together cussing a p/o for his screwups and banging your knuckles together. He gives the advise now and is the calm one and I do most of the grunt work, but I wouldn't want it any other way. Tub is off the frame now and next we pull the motor and tranny and get to cleaning everything. I look forward to seeing your progress.

foot..i am in osage city...about 40 miles south of alma...lots of good fishing in the flint hills...when we first got this cruiser jake was 5...we would head out to the farm so he could drive it...he would slide down in the seat...push in the clutch bang it into first let out the clutch and slide back up on the seat...away we would go...not tall enough to get it into any other gear!...we would ride around in various circles for hours...in first gear...he would be talking his head off just about stuff and how much he loved his truck...and the best part his mother gave a thumbs up to this activity...it got him off the dirt bike i bought him for xmas!

thanks pscott...i did forget to mention that we installed 4 of the roundeye rock lights..amber in color..2 of these went to light the rear of the interior...it was kinda dark back there and 2 were mounted front and rear under the truck...jake calls them his neons...66fj40x2 reminds him regularly that they are rock lights!...we plan to mount 2 more under the truck...one on each side...these are very nice lights and bright as hell....they look sweet!...and are well worth the money

My boys are ate up with fishing, and it totally sucks out here! They spend the summers in Platte City, MO. the wife takes them back and lives with the in-laws so they can see family. I can't imagine how hog assed wild my boys would go if I took them out my friend's ranch in Alma. I'd tell the fishing tales but no one would believe me they are so great! They have hundreds of stocked ponds and 3 huge Corp watersheds, one of which is just incredible to fish. All private and they are serious old school KS ranchers (they settled the land).

I've got my eye on a couple of Fjs as soon as I get a bit of jack in hand I'm going to get one!

Have fun fishing back there!

Matt

Nice looking Rig! Once my favorite Uncle Sam allows me to retire I plan on doing about as much of a resto on my 76 Fj40. I am also in rural Kansas, just a bit west of you in Junky City. I work on Ft. Riley. I don't see to many Cruisers out this way! Maybe we will pass each other on I-70 one day!

Great job  reminds me of the build I did with my old man on my first car a 55 Chevy. As a young man you don't appreciate those times as much until you get older. Its something all fathers should do with their sons and its a experience that will serve lasting memories. The nice thing today in the digital age you can take hundreds of pictures to document those memories to look back on.

Enjoy your hard work it looks great.

thanks fellas...jake and i continue to have a great time with all our cruisers!

Jake will remember this long after your gone...Nice Job...

What about the paint? Base coat/ Clear coat? (I thought somebody already asked but I did not find it.) Also, I think it was Brian in Oregon that did the Durabek spray in, I have it bookmarked.
