How much have you spent so far? I'm very new to FJ's, almost a month now. And I have been pricing all the stuff I need/want, it gets a little overwheling. Just curious as to how much you have put out.
Also, like I said, very new to these trucks. The engine looks great, are they the original colors? I'd like to get mine looking like that...

Quit reading it.

Thank you. Someone needed to say it.
Max nice build up. It reminds me when I was 14 and my Dad gave me his 66 Fairlane, that was quite a buildup. Had lots of fun with my Dad.

Max,

Very nice job so far, you should be proud of your work. Is this something you are working on with your dad? Looks like you are hitting the details nicely as you go.

well, my dad and I are doing the best we can. we are trying to our hardest to not cut any corners and not take any shortcut. this is my first restoration of any car but his second. his first was a 59' porsche. we hope to have it running by the end of august. that is a good deadline because we wont be killing ourselves trying to make it

So its just you and your dad workig on this? Looks like a lot of work for just 2 people, is there anyone else helping? or anyone that you can ask questions of and get some reasonably good questions? :D :D And a new pic of the engine would be cool, kinda like this one.

unfortunautley, didnt pu in new pistons or get it bored. just cant afford that for now. the engine isnt even really put together, is just layed to gether so we could see what it looks like. were still not sure what size bearing and rings to put in, we bought a digital caliper and it says the bore is smaller than stock but it could be out of whack soo. my dad said he would wait toll i got home from canada till we figure out the bores and everything...

What color you plan on painting it? And are you going to restore the roof too or go with a soft top?

By the way did you see the new tubs in the vendor section :)

Kevin

I would like to paint it a brown color but thats not an orginal color. im not going to pant it the orginal color that it came with becauz its two different tubs. we are going to try and and paint it ourselfs. well probably.

i will be keepin the hard top, no restoration on it yet but that will come soon.

--any color recomendations?

Blue that cool blue color that you have painted on part of it, or the red color that it is.

Both halfs of my 74 were green before I stripped them. I went with Freeborn red (my son's choice). When I redo the 72 it will be Dune Beige.

Making more progress than me :o One thing I did with my engine and was dirt cheep was put a 2F valve cover on. Can get them really cheep. You will need to by new studs, grommets, and acorn nuts (can still get all this from Toyota.) I think in all I might have $20-30 dollars in it. I used some jewlers glaze (hardware store) and mine went from looking like a hunk o junk to pimpin.

My 11 year old is helping me with mine as is my neighbor (Cruzila) Hope to get my son hooked too.

  for your dad!

Looks great Max, keep plugging away at it, you and your dad are moving right along and are making great progress. More than I can say for myself, between my kids, wife and the house, my cruiser gets put on the back burner.

It is great to see someone (especially 14 years of age) set goals and be driven to accomplish them.

I expect to see some pics of you and your cruiser on the trail real soon!!!

Thanks rockcod, I apreciate your gratitude towards my project. but dont forget to include my brother (insainityisborn), he has helped a tonas well.

Working on a project with your dad is great!
Many of us never did that as kids. It's too bad.
You'll look back someday and really appreciate the experience. And so will your kid...some day!
;)
