Do 4runner rock sliders fit on the GX? Just wondering if there are more options for purchasing

If your GX has KDSS, your options are limited.
Otherwise there are several quality makers. I *believe* that 4th gen 4Runners and GX470 designs are the same, but I’m not positive. Best to look at the websites, call, ask etc.
Off the top of my head, some brands...
White Knuckle
Demello
Metal Tech
RCI
RSG
Victory 4x4
Rocky Road
Bud Built

I’m sure there are others.

I’m hoping to find some that are just straight across with no bump out in the back end. I might get some that need welding to save a few hundred bucks

Love my White Knuckle Off Road. Super easy install. Did it by myself with a floor jack and jack stands.

Really happy to hear that...I have a set on order from them.

Went and looked those up. They are pretty neat and a bit cheaper than the rocky road. Is the quality / strength less or is it just the same material but cheaper?

I had the Rocky Road on my 80 series and the White Knuckle were much nicer all the way around. The fitment was perfect on the WK where I needed to fab a bit with the RR. The powder coat finish is awesome on the WK and they come packed like precious cargo. RR just in a box with some rubbing together. I believe WK told me they were the same as the same gen 4 Runner without KDSS. Call them though. They are great to work with

Thank you.

Thank you.

One thing you should know, if it matters to you (it doesn’t to me)...
White Knuckle is a U-bolt design. They don’t bolt directly to the frame, they use huge u-bolts to mount their sliders. EDIT...ok, they do bolt directly to the frame, but they do it via big u bolts that “wrap” around the frame. Other companies bolt INTO pre-threaded hole already in the frame.
I had u bolt sliders (Hanna) on an fj80 that I bashed mercilessly all over the rubicon, Moab, etc and they never let me down.
I’m totally sold on the design and robustness, but thought you should know.

Hmmmm, to u or not to u..? We will primarily be using it for steps and emergency “oh s***” protection if we happen to do something dumb while overlanding That and of course extra ground clearance over those huge factory running boards.

I have a semi-related question. I understand the top portion of the factory running boards connect and create a weather seal if I read correctly. If I removed the running boards completely (I don’t want to cut them) could I use some of this along the entire length to cover up those holes to prevent some of the moisture getting in?

Beware you will seriously rip your legs up getting in and out, wearing shorts, when using that tape. You may want to re-consider cutting the OEM steps and sealing correctly...you will probably never remount them.

Any other commercial grade tape I can use that’ll stay on and not have that rough surface? I really don’t want to cut any of the original bodywork so I’m keeping these and both bumpers when they get replaced. Otherwise I’ll need to get another set from another GX470 to cut. :)

I would hold caution for RR, if planning to have them for trail use and safety
When looking at their stuff, the slider looks awesome, but IIRC the arm, the main support which sees the leverage is made of 1" square stock. There are many buyer beware posts on 4r threads. They look great but are a bit more for looks and entry nerf bar not a true slider.

I've installed WK on a KDSS GX, super easy, I went with metal tech (are kdss compliant) due to sale and group buy deal. They're more complicated to install (i did install mods in my build). They're like 1.5" longer than WK and fit to wheel wells a little better, but WK also offered flat or 15deg up angle (nice), and their main slider rail is 2x3 whereas MT and most all others are 2x2 or round (less strong IMO), also look for DOM vs HREW steel (WK references the difference).
