I have a 93 prado with a 2LTE engine. After travelling for a while the orange light (turbo) comes on. I lose whatever power I had and it stats to blow black smoke and miss. The only sure way to get the light off is to tip water over the fuel pump. And then away we go for anothe 5o kms. Any ideas......
And I need a workshop manual for it, maybe in english, and a wiring diagram

Hi, and welcome on the forum...

Can't help you on your turbo problem (untight fuelpump when heated up drawing air ?)but as far the manuals and diagrams go, look at these pages here on the forum.

orange light is over boost warning.
check waste gate actuator first

Thanks guys. The first thing i did was check the waste gate. Its a bit hard to exolain why tipping water over the fuel pump works

If you are pooring warm or hot over the pump I have heard it fools a sensor some how and tells the engine its warm?

hummm, since there is only 2 wires coming off the pump, the shut off and the tach, where is this sensor located?

Yep, thats why I left a question mark, only read it somewere before.

But explain how the water effects the poor starting and improves it?

can't explain

has any work been done to the truck recently?

i am thinking it is a fluke that pouring water is solving the problem...
blowing black is over fueling (which works with the idea of the turbo overboost is coming on) so...
with out more info... no answer.

BTW, Robbie, i wasn't being combative, i was asking a question...

Ahh Wayno, I take everything with a grain of salt or a beer in some cases.

I will try and play nicer in the sand box.

As for this black smoke I am working on three local vehicles with cold starting and excessive black smoke. I would really like to find more cures for the on going problems these prados have.

We checked boost on all three first and it was not the problem.

Robbie was my given name until high schoool LOL.

on cold start disconnect the wire from the temp sender for the glow relay, it will automaticly set for coldest start.. that helps the glow timer.
the excessive black smoke at start up is normal for most of the 2LTE, some not as bad as others, some really bad.

Fuel temp sensor in the pump, just found it browsing through the EPC.

We have went through the glow system measuring timing and temperature, all is within factory spec.

Not only are two of the trucks blowing black smoke, but running very rough until warm.

got a part number?
new info for me, cool.

compression test? turbo boost test?
