I did this not too long ago. You can lengthen the float rod easily with a piece of stiff wire, the stock sender works.

I got mine to read really accurately after it was said and done by making sure that at the bottom of the senders sweep it was just on the bottom of the tank. Also the reverse with it at the top of the tank it was right at the top of the travel.

Easy to pull the sender through it's range of motion to see where the gauge says the level is afterwards.

Sucky thing is you'll have to drop the tank to do it unless you cut a hole in the floorboards. Not so sucky thing is the LRA tank is pretty easy to drop when it's empty since it doesn't use the straps anymore.

Thanks for that info man! Getting my gauge to work right is on my list, I just have some things a bit more important right now! I fueled up the truck last night. Gauge was on empty, all I got in the tank was 23ish gallons. So I guess I know that on empty I still have 15 gallons!!

Honestly if you re did your fan shroud it would probably solve some of the cooling issue. I would also check to make sure its the right fan clutch for your motor. If you did anything electric fan wise all I would say is add a pusher fan for when the a/c is on/off road.

Cooling issues seem solved man, at least for the time being. I just drove it up a pretty steep road. It didn't get over 190. Last night off-road it got up to 210ish. I would like it to run a bit cooler off-road, a high 190 would be ideal. Plus I will need it to run cool in hot climates and with the A/C on. Hence interest in a possible electric fan set up.

It doesn't have a fan clutch.

Here are pictures of the shroud, I think it is good, what do you think?

These are OME and I am not impressed! Not sure what I will replace them with, at this point I really have no idea but it is doubtful I will replace with OME. Definately putting in a traction bar on the rear axle when new leaves get done.

Here are the motor mounts, yes they could be worse but these need to be replaced imho.

I was aksed about my fuel system on a different forum, here is what this truck is running....

It has 2 of these, one before and one after the pump.

It works very well and I have zero fuel delivery issues.

Aeromotive 11106 Aeromotive 700 HP Fuel Pumps

Get the weight of your rig and get some Alcan springs made or get the Mojave springs that lcwizard makes.

I agree with the OME springs I have not been impressed with any of there stuff for the price.

Greetings from Expo, thanks for the pics of your fuel system. That's the fuel pump I started with, but for some reason the 11106 ate itself in a few thousand miles. I returned it to Aeromotive who replaced it under warranty, but we couldn't figure out the cause. I switched to less expensive Bosch and have been fine since.
Your engine mounts look to be the standard generic V-8 mounts SOR, AA, and others sell. Agreed the rubber could use replacing and the welding looks like Gurdy the gob dropper did it.
Those springs are spent, are you sure they're OME? I wonder what weight rating and manufacture. I've got the older (OME vs. Dakar or ??? now) bought in 2003 heavy rears, and med/heavy fronts and the spring packs look significantly thicker. Hope mine don't do that!
My offer still stands if you'd like a copy of the LRA instructions for your gas tank and gauge sender mod.
The Ramjet is a great motor, next I've got to tune for some mileage.

if you pull the fuel sender and pickup, you'll know right away if they've been modified. they will have extensions welded in the middle. we put one in the raffle rig we built a few years back.

last time that I had problems with my t-case low selector .. need to open the t'case . .

Yeah it worked pretty well man to get the lever up and out. We didn't have a tranny jack so had to muscle the gear boxes around, that must be when we pushed the rod down into the case. The last ditch effort was air, it worked awesome!

Hey Jim...

The fuel pump seems to be working great, in fact the motor is not really giving me any probs at all other then it was running hot and blowing oil out the valve cover breathers. Both things are not repaired to my standards but are under control for the time being. It has not gone over 210 since we put in the thermostat and only went above 195 to 210 once in maybe 150 miles now of driving. It also has not puked any oil out the breathers, only seeping a tiny bit which is hardly noticable.

No I am not sure they are OME, just what PO told me they were. Everybody rants and raves about OME, I am considering trying some do to all the good reviews. Yet, if these are OME they suck and I don't want to replace them with sucky springs. On other trucks I have been happy with Deavers and also a few different brands out of Aus such as Pedders. I do believe the shocks in it are OME. I am thinking of replacing them with some Bilstein 5150s. I was real happy with the Icons in my Taco, have not checked if Icon makes anything for a Cruiser.

Yup as you said booger welds on the motor mounts. That has got to go! The big donuts probably keep the vibes down a lot but that is not a big concern of mine. I am after strength. Here is what we did for tranny mounts on one of my trucks. This uses Chevy leaf bushes and is along the lines of what I want to see for motor mounts in the Cruiser.

Or something along the lines of these for the engine mounts....

Heavy Duty Toyota Motor Mounts, Ford, Chevy, GM Bolt-In Engine Mounts, Transfer Case Alignment Shims, Power Steering Kit, T-Case Mounting Plate

Those mounts are pretty fancy...
I wish I had found those when I did the...X member on my TC
I made my own and used suspension bushings...

I saw the pics of your rear springs, they do not look like any OME I have seen. I have over 200k on my rears, just replaced my OME fronts last fall. They have been exceptional and they have been tourtured for 14 years.

No plans to SoA. I want to keep it low for a good cog. Believe it or not I am after road performance over off-road performance. Driving to Panama or similar trips the truck will see much more pavement then dirt. However I do plan to have the Cruiser set up for some pretty good off-roading. It already is really...but for serious off-roading I already have a truck on 40" tires with portal axles and 16" coilovers. The Cruiser is my overland truck and as such my mods will be geared torwards that kind of use.

Yes I do get some rub, especially off-road when it flexes. I see no damage though from rub and can't even clearly see where it is rubbing. I plan to just lower bump stops to cure any rubbing. I don't need a bunch of up travel on the Cruiser.

I will see if I can post up some more pics of the leaf springs so maybe we can get them identified.

This weekend I am taking it over to St. Anthony, Idaho for some sand dune wheeling and camping! Should be a good test...

MO info on that hitch receiver under the ARB please.... !!!

Nice pics and story.I really like the V8 and the overdrive. You're tires are going to rub.Are you going to do the SOA?That would be trick.

Finally had some time to compare...sure looks like OME to me. Shackles are OME, shocks are OME and steering stabablizer is OME.

Leafs are close to Iron Man but are not Iron Man. They don't look like any Alcans I can find pictures of.

The leaves on my truck have all the tell tale signs of being OME. The distinctive military wrap ends, same number of & location of the leaf bolt clamps, same number of leaves in the pack, shocks are OME, shackles are OME, ect. The only thing mine doesn't have is the overload spring, easily removed by a PO. The ends on the individuel leaves look a little different from OME because they are more rounded but whoes to say PO didn't round them off for better flex? :)

MAF OME Dakkar Leaf Springs

I may go with OME simply because I can get 4" springs and at under $200 a spring. All I need is springs right now...

My OME's looked like that after a few years of hard wheeling. A few of the rear leaves finally broke.

I went with Alcans which i am pretty happy with so far, not too many miles on them yet though.

After what I put my OME's through, I'd say they lasted pretty well.. I wouldn't mind getting another set again, I just got Alcans to try something different.
