Hi All,
I have a Rhino Rack Vortex system on my 1998 LC and discovered a cool way to re-use my Yakima gear with the Rhino aero crossbars.
The Yakima gear I have came with their Universal SNAR SnapArounds that clamp to their round bar:
I found that if I take two of these and open them up all the way, they will perfectly 'sandwich' around the Rhino Rack Vortex crossbars:
There is still a small hump above the crossbar that will require a couple washers to provide a completely flat seating surface, but the whole sandwich tightens down nice and secure. Loosen the nuts a little bit and the sandwich will slide nicely for positioning.
A set of four of these SnapArounds sell for around $12 at REI and Amazon, much cheaper than buying new bike mounts!
I'm not sure if the original, totally round bar clamps will work as nicely as these SNARs since they don't have the extra, flexible features on the inside.
Hope this helps other Rhino Rack'ers save some bucks.
- Jim
