all in all, it was a good day and i got a lot done. even had time to clean up the garage and install the TV cable for the transmission. i tried to install the starter as well, but ran into clearance problems with it and the aluminum inspection cover. at this point, i was too worn out to deal with it so i figured i'd call it a night and post some pics.

hopefully i'll get some more stuff done tomorrow. ;)

Your doing a good and thorough job on your build-up which is nice to see.

Would you mind if I stop by sometime and take a peak?
Are you still around Stockton?

I have not personally tried this starter on the cover you have, however I do know it will fit in the old cast iron SM 420 bell housing whereas the big starter will not.

got to spend a couple of hours in the garage today, my wife has been pretty understanding about this whole buildup.
i got started on designing and fabricating the transmission cross member/ skid plate. i don't have it all figured out yet cause the atlas won't be here for another 8 days, but i have a rough idea.
since the drill press pooped out yesterday when i was drilling the spring pin hole in the front axle perch, i figured i might as well fire up my mill so it does'nt just sit there collecting dust. got both of the "main rails" done. it took longer than expected, but they look pretty sweet.

Why would you even start with a drill press when you have that purdy blue mill right there

If a drill press is what you want I will bring one right up there and take that mill off your hands

As the great cruiser build off goes on

we need a tv show or something all about the build "NO DRAMA" life is to fking short for it

I have gone back into my post and fixed it up for you Georg.
Fingers just don't always keep up
So what the :censor: can I say

George, looking good, but why all the holes in the crossmember?

I am building mine this week hopefully. I am torn on how to do it though. Hopefully I can get Mark's bender set up at his place and crankit out up there.

the x-member.
i guess i should explain how this is gonna work. well, hopefully anyways. the 2 pieces of square tube in the pics above will follow the bottom of the frame rails and will be acting as a set of frame sliders since they will be perfectly smooth on the bottom. the large holes are for the rivet heads sticking out of the frame, the small holes will be utilized to mount the square tube to the frame rails via a series of 5 bolts per side. of course there will be some extra "cross members" connecting the 2 and then a skid plate on the bottom to protect everything.
i can't do a whole lot more until i get the atlas but then i will post more pics.

George- that axle build is bad ass. I am getting more and more interrested in automatics too, though I do like my SM420 still. How low is that thing going to be hanging down off the belly?

Your'e kick'n butt! Better keep sending flowers to the wife at work! :D

the bottom of the th700 trans pan in my rig is above the frame rails!

totally SWEET!

Do you have a source for TBI motors?

I love the weld on the perches and the C. Nice stacking.

i don't have a "source" for tbi motors, but you can normally find em at wrecking yards and in the penny saver.

thanks for the compliments on the welds. FC187 did the C and perch, since he's a lot more accomplished welder than i am, besider, he has a lincoln 220 at his place and all i have is a miller 130.
