Hey all just hooked up my reverse light - they stay on when not in reverse and go off when in reverse.

Did the switch mention NO or NC? (normally open, normally closed, respectively)
Sounds like you have a normally closed switch and would need a normally open.

Yup looks like its the 4 speed switch in there in place of the 3 speed.
Rockauto has the both versions for around 45 bucks !

have you ohmed it out? Did you also change positions of the plunger and ohm it again to verify change of state? Could the switch be gunked up and stuck in the reverse position? maybe it could be ungunked? just a few questions

Yup got it all squared away - there was a 4 spd switch in the 3 speed trans.
Crazy! Who knew...

Funny the threading is the same... Wag of the finger
threads into the top plate, right?
Probably cheaper to keep the top plate casting the same when going from 3 to 4 spd...
My reverse lights stay on all the time...so I took the bulbs out. They used to work fine, but all of a sudden they messed up. Any clues?
Take the switch out and see if they are still on. Likely switch is "stuck" or enough crap in it to flow current. I'd hit it with contact cleaner (not brake cleaner)

Got it from rockauto then tore it a apart and added all the rubber.
The rubber booty did not come with it?
