A buddy gave me a tent that belonged to his late father in law. It is in remarkable shape. It weighs a ton, but had to take it on a camping trip just to try it out.

Looks like a solid tent. I guess canvas back then was just made with a tight weave. To even touch that stuff today brings an absurd premium. Nice score.

man I wish I'd piped up about my grandmas old coleman tent...just scored a pair of old lanterns and a 425F stove for 30 buck out the door.

Thanks, I look for aluminum lawn chairs specifically when we go out to garage sales.
Three cheap steel Chinese chairs are going in the recycling tonight, each one weighs as much as all three of the chairs I have to replace them. The "new" chairs are more comfortable than the steel crap too. As a Bonus these chair don't need to be re-strung, they are like new.

Not sure if this counts as "camping gear", but found a few of these in the parent's basement. Dad and his siblings probably used them when they were kids in the 50's. Still in pretty great shape and as you can see from the detail shot, these were made by furniture companies during WWII (date stamp 1-20-44). The other two were from '43. Steamed plywood frames. Lighter in weight than they appear.

Those are cool, but look really uncomfortable!!!

:)

Wish I had time to post some pics in this thread. Love the vintage camping gear finds. I've found a Honda generator from 1965 still new in the box and a Sears-branded Coleman stove from the late 70's still new in the box.

Check out the photo albums under the past trips. Vintage camping gear galore!

The straps are horrible, but the suspended canvas back is not bad. Lots of airflow back there too.

That was my first thought, they look like the old BSA Trapper Nelson frames. I wonder how many kids never went on a second hike after carrying one of those?

I had one of those at one time and I don't know what happened to it. I've been looking for one ever since. I bought a new one with a metal frame, but it is not quite the same. Does anyone still make those?

I've got the steel-framed version of that. It is better than the chairs that fold up and fit in a bag, but still not as good as the OG aluminum models.

Here's the real-deal, though you have to pony up the big bucks... http://www.lawnchairusa.com/

I guess I better start hitting the garage sales.

You need a bullwhip for that set...
