What say Mud about replacements?

Had been very interested in the Droid Maxx for it's supurb battery life, but found out you needed 3rd party software to sync Outlook contacts and calendar to it and you HAD to establish a gmail account with Google. This is the first all Google phone in the droid series and I'm not sure I like the proprietary move Google has made with this phone at all.

Ought to say that I'm with Verizon, and that's not subject to debate or change.

Verizon store rep said the only phones they had that could directly sync to Outlook were the Nokia Windows phones and the Apple iPhones. Not many apps for Windows phones and I've never owned an Apple phone, only an iPod. Not much of an app user, so that's not extremely important to me.

Quick survey around work and iPhone comments have all been positive about simplicity of use and reliability. Nobody owns a windows phone around here.

I have the Casio Commander, nice phone for outdoors but it has a crappy camera and is probably not a great work phone. The GPS is awesome if that is the kind of stuff you want from a smart phone.

I kept my original Blackberry 7500 series under Sprint and use a Galaxy 3 for internet, and work email. The BB is still the devide for email, calendar and contacts, hands down. I hope they get back in the pack in the future b/c they are the best at work related features imho.

If I was buying a Android phone, I'd move all my contacts and calendars to Google. Not trying to be a dick, it's just the path of least resistance.

An iPhone is a great solution. Detractors complain that it prevents customization. If you like your iPod, then that's my recommendation

That is total BS. I have a Razr Maxx (using it right now), and i can assure you that it integrates perfectly with Exchange/Outlook for email/calendar/contacts/tasks, no third party apps required.

And i resisted the Google account for awhile. Eventually i caved and I'm glad I did. The integration is amazing. If i put an address on an appointment in my outlook calendar, google knows and reminds me when i should leave due to traffic, and automatically launching Maps with directions.

Google it's doing great integration job ... that's why ( and fact I hate M$ ) I don't use M$ Outlook anymore ..

My company at work uses nothing but Microsoft. Outlook is where all my email and contacts are. I use a windows phone (Nokia Lumia 928) and have been pleasantly surprised with it's capability. Everything is seamless with reguard to Microsoft office.

I have had no issues with the phone and it just works...

The 3rd party software seems to be from Microsoft? I don't have a exchange account to est with but my droid also has a 'exchange' option under accounts, along with gmail and other such stuff.

You can turn off the 'sync with google mothership' options..including but not limited to contacts. I'm not actually sure you're required to have a gmail account, but if you are you can basically use it for nothing anyway. It is a awfully convenient backup for your contacts, though.

If you have the option I would go with one of the google phones.

Since you're with Verizon(I am too) they are not adopting the new Nexus5 phone because they are retarded. Galaxy Nexus phones on Ebay are ~$100..I'd get one of those(it's what I currently use).

Just my 0.02$

Good feedback - ended up with the iPhone 5s. Feedback from friends and coworkers on simplicity of use, etc. was just to compelling for my technology challenged better half!

No issues syncing calendar and contacts via iTunes. More fun than watching the super bowl, that's for sure! Wi-fi was another issue. Ended up having to update my firmware on an older D-Link wireless router so it'd talk to the newer iPhone! Once I did that, the phone recognized hte wi-fi at home right away.

Now to get used to completely different technology!
