Well I can honestly say the turbo was my problem all along. Just look at that beautiful oil sheen in the hot side.

I haven't even started the 60 in a month and it still had that much in it. I got every pulled and the new turbo clocked. I realized that none of the old intake/intercooler plumbing is going to work it. So i didn't get it put in. The HX35 output flange will be here Thursday and I need to grab a big pair snap ring pliers to get the compressor snap ring back in.

Yep, that turbo is smoked. Could probably be rebuilt and brought back into service, so don't throw it out.

For the compressor snap rings, I finally found a reasonably priced tool that makes the job a 30 second task instead of a 30 minute curse fest. Check this out.

Yeah it is a H1C Turbo. So I really have to decide if it's worth the effort of rebuilding it. Not when you can find rebuild one's for $250 and the rebuild kit is like $90. I haven't took it to the scrap metal bin yet though.

I threw my channel lock pliers on the ground.... twice.... trying to get that damn compressor snap ring back in. Finally I walked away after saying curse words in languages that I don't even speak. I knew we had a set of snap ring pliers big enough at work. Already grabbed them so I can get the ring in tonight. 54mm socket for reference.

Looks like the same exact ones I got from amazon, nice.

With the 90* tips it's easy to remove and install the snap ring when the turbo is on the truck too.

Yeah I wanted the 90* tips, but for free thirty, I will just use these. Hopefully there will be no need to remove the compressor housing again once it gets put on the engine. I also got an new 12 piece intercooler kit coming in this week. Might as well make everything look as beautiful as the HX30W.

Well got the turbo mounted up. Left everything loose till the intercooler kit gets in tomorrow fingers 🤞. I had to reclock it again because there wouldn't have been e ought room for the 90 off the output flange. So going to do a 45° down between the gap between alternator, oil lines, and battery.

overnight.

I got a little dawn soap left over so I will probably shake some soapy water through that. Help with the smoke when it gets hot and starts burning residue.

You can buy a 90* compressor outlet for the superhx30 from a HX35. That's what I'm running on my truck.

Well got it all back together last night. Went to start it and mid crank the engine would stop, then crank again. Didn't want to start. Did about 3 good long cranks and nothing. Hit the primer a couple times, heard the pump do its little blow by every pump. So good fuel pressure. Gave it a little spray of the convincing juice. Fired ride up then quickly died afterwards. So good fuel and good compression. Pulled the intercooler tube off at the engine intake. Started right up and ran. Suction at the intake was stronger, air pressure out of the intercooler felt weak. Pulled the bottom boot off on the output of the intercooler. Splash, WATER :bang:

For a 3 days I had all of the plumbing off of it with a space heater blowing right on it and there was still water in it from when I cleaned it out. Well I let run for a bit so the air going in could dry it out. Then I saw it was 11, I had been up since 5. Time to go home and get to bed.

Well 5am I was off to work. The car decided it wanted to take a dump on me. No issues till this morning. Overtime day so I can't miss work. Managed to get the car to the shop. Gotta drive Goss in, don't want to but a nessary evils. 530 am and I putting the intercooler plumbing back together. I rolled into work 605. 5 mins late, boss didn't care because I'm always early.

Well the Cruiser ran fantastic. I babied it so much. Bush light beans the whole way. Even being gentle I did notice there was zero lag on the engine wanting to go take off. Smoked a little but not making clouds like before. Pretty sure that is still oil residue in the exhaust even I tried to clean them out. But Gossamer did great going down the interstate. Good oil pressure, good voltage, good temperatures.

Late nights and early mornings, gotta live them.

Well I haven't posted in a while. Just means I have been really busy. Dealing with the VA, trying to get s*** other than Land Cruisers sorted out. But on the Cruiser side of life. I got great news and I got terrible news. Nothing that is just good and nothing just bad, only extremes. So the terrible news, the engine is a large block of metal right now. I was driving it to work one day and just when I pull into the parking lot, I shifted into neutral and it died. That was the last time it ran. I pulled the valve covers off hoping that I just bent a push rod because I didn't adjust them right when I did the head, nope. Loosened up all the rockers off of the pushrods and tried turning it with my barring tool. It would not even turn a little bit in either direction and usually 4bts are easy to turn with a barring tool. That's the terrible news. I haven't pulled the pan to look at the bottom half. Still has oil on the dipstick hash marks. I don't have the time to pull an engine apart. So the great news, I am just going to buy a new 4bt for it and rebuild that one when I have the time. Got enough vehicles around here that it be put in one of them. But I can't buy it till next month because they won't let me get the money out of my saving till then.

So more great news. Managed to save up money for something else I have been wanting and talking about..... drum roll.....

Finally can tell that P3000 pump to kiss the dark spot of my a******. I went ahead and got the stage 1 7100 from Dieseltuff with the 3000 GSK installed. I am one of the few non Christian men that still tries doing God's work. I have to travel for work the next 2 months, when I get back the new engine should be here. So about 4 days of honest work to get done. Engine should be pulled, engine components swapped over (buying a long blick), then tuning the pump 17°, putting in the 350 hp head bolts, and then slamming the new engine back in.

Been staying positive about this because the lower half of the engine is only thing original, besides the Ranger OD box, from the drivetrain. So everything but the bumpers, frame, sliders, and OD box are the only things I haven't done anything to besides painting them.

Ok so had to travel a lot for work but I'm done. So here is where we are currently. Got a brand new long block for the 60 from Big Bear. It's so beautiful 😍
20220629_135233.jpg

I got the old engine pulled. Was a bit of a problem because the lift is so high and the engine height is greater than the length. The cherry picker wouldn't go high enough to pull the engine. Ended up buy a hoist for the I-beam in the shop and put mini truck tires on the front. Still had to turn the engine sideways to clear the radiator.

So now for the FU of the fun part. I gave Big Bear my ESN so they could match the engine. Well the casting of the block is slightly different. Went to put the bellhousong adapter and it wouldn't fit. After messing around with it I found out the adapter for the starter is hitting the block.

On the old block this is rounded. I don't see any signs of savings done before.
20220707_192502.jpg

So I guess this just a different casting. So now I get to save this down to get back on track.

Well it's ready to go in. Got the engine bay all cleaned out with the pressure washer today. Probably do a few touch ups spots with some rust preventive, never a bad idea.

And just look at that sexy Stage 1 P7100. Can't wait to hear it fire up Friday.
20220711_191351.jpg

Engine and tranny are mated together in that sexy hot ritual that turns the vroom vroom into go go. Engine mounts are in. Got the 350 hp head bolts from PDD in and torqued to specs. Probably will get the fuel lines on, hook everything up on the left/front side of the engine and call it the night. Do exhaust/turbo/coolant lines tomorrow.

I did forget to mention that I also got rid the stock crank pulley and splurged on a Fluidampr to help balance out and quiet down the engine more. Didn't want to just have this new engine beating itself like a teenage boy discovering porn for the first time.

Well late night last night at the shop, But worth it. Got to drive tje 60 home last night. It made home but was not on par with what I would call acceptable. I would say more like a double bogey performance.

-Intercooler boot made some slight bubbles with soapy water. Tightened up
-Dual oil filter housing has a slight leak. I wanted were the lines were up and down to look nice, they wanted to be tighter. Do that tomorrow.
-Damn fan switch sensor isn't grounding out. Had to go straight to ground so it is always running when the 60 is in ACC or RUN. Still debating about a new sensor or just doing and actual switch I can turn on/off.
- The PSI on the boost didn't get above 17. Kind of expected with all the performance parts just slapped on that some tuning would be needed. I will have to start ticking up the star wheel until I see that 38 PSI that the turbo can do. More of an annoyance because I wanted to feel what I know itt could do.
- Need to up the idle just a little bit more so it starts a little better and shakes a little less.

Besides all of that, I did get a good 40 miles on it today and a couple thumbs 👍

Well bad news bears..... turbo wasn't getting over 18 psi. I turned the star wheel up to a light lack on take off. Still only 18 psi. So got to shop put a pair vice grips on on the waste gate hose. Took it around the block and still 18 psi. Let it cool down and took the intake hose off and there is a little play on the shaft.

So ordered another Super HW30X. I will get this rebuilt and keep it as a spare.
