Hey, Danny. I never hit my head either, but my wife may disagree on that. Though I could have easily hit my head when I fell from the back of the box van.

Hand throttle is OK, but I prefer the cruise control for being quicker to release than a hand throttle, without removing my hands from the steering wheel. That's where I like the cruise control in my pickup and Astro van. It holds real good from 35MPH on up, and a very light bump on the brake pedal releases it. I just wish I knew of an aftermarket CC to put in my 40 that did as good as those GM units.

Yeah Sarge, back problems are not fun. I understand the wooden dining chair thing, except my sacro-iliac doesn't take long to start bothering me when I sit on a hard surface.

I was typing while you were posting Danny. I like that hand throttle on the shift shaft idea. That would be much better than on the dash like stock. It seems to me like it would be much faster to operate because grabbing the shift knob is an automatic move for those used to manual shift.

I keep my right hand on the hand throttle when driving with it - it's very easy to quickly release it.

But, I get your point... I read this thread a while back... there are a few guys with CC and they discuss their's HERE - post#5 says it was the GM OEM...

Yep... that's what I was getting at... it's easy to release and cheap!! You can see mine in the last post of the link I sent.

SOLVED (FOR ME):
I've had the similar issue since I added PS, new clutch, TO bearing & pilot bearing. I kept adjusting the slave push rod... in and out, in and out... to no avail. The clutch still ended up engaging too close to the top for my liking.

It was the master cylinder (that I rebuilt). Two things: 1) I had installed the (indented) washer to the outside of the retaining clip, where it did nothing, but it did add about 1/10" slop. (Under the arrow). I fixed that, (BTW, to adjust the rod after install, just open the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder to allow slack), I adjusted the pedal play and push rod so that my clutch begins to engage when about 2.5 to 3 inches from the floor. Just where I like it. 👊

Many thanks to all of you that had sleepless nights over this... Your comments and laments led me to the solution. 1969 FJ40 F engine.
