I still have the stock ones in mine, I did the zip tie method to fix the rattling mirror. If they give mw any more grief I will get these Kool Vue ones. I had a set on my 2000 Dodge Ram, same Kool vue brand. They are still working today up in northern Mississippi, 7 years later.

Has anyone taken an aftermarket mirror apart? I'd be curious to know if it's an identical copy of the OEM mirror, or if they only copied the exterior.

The one aftermarket mirror I have is not identical.

The internals aren't. From what I seen through the bottom hole... I didn't take it apart to see but if I break one I'll dissect it. Maybe it's a better design? Who knows

The passenger replacement I have is not identical internally as the original. I have this one:

It has taken lots of whacks from limbs and brush and is still holding well. It does vibrate a little going down the road but not bad at all.

Just ordered a set. Did you have to paint yours or is that how they came out of the box?

Any leads on where to get the interior plastic trim piece that covers the bolt heads? May or may not have broken mine in the disassembly process...

Sent an email inquiry couple days ago. Haven't heard anything back yet.
