Replace front o2 sensor procedure - Very Easy or Easy? (1 Viewer)

2 sensors on each side, one before and one after the catalytic converter. Last year I did one of the front sensors and the CEL came on again a month or two later. I did the other front one and all is well. My code reader told me which one was bad both times, though.

thanks

How did you reset the CEL code?

they did it at auto zone
no 1 closest to cylinder head

You'll need to have them/someone read the current code. Could be the 2nd O2 sensor (be sure to check the electrical connection at the sensor that was just replaced).

took back to auto zone
gave code po135
dont think its poor connectoin
hou do I find circuit fuse

Do the O2 sensors go bad at around a certain mileage? Mine are all fine (knock on wood), but I'm going to be doing my 90K service soon and thought about just changing them as well?

I would wait until you get a CEL, and just do that sensor. It is not something that will ever leave you stranded. And I believe there is not much harm in waiting a week or three to do it once you get the CEL.

Does any body knows the cost of this O2 sensor. If this improves gas milage as some have said, I sure want to do this. I am getting only about 250 miles for a full tank after I put 285's. I was geting about 300 before

Right after I replaced the PS upstream O2 sensor (OEM) I went back up to 300-miles on a tank of gas (combined) and more on the highway. I went ahead and replaced the DS even though it hadn't pushed a code but mileage dropped back down to 250-265 per tank (combined). I did not pull the battery cables to "reset" the ECU as some have mentioned. This is as my sig line indicates with 315 MTR's, 4.88 and lots of added weight (which is consistent from tank to tank full).

Sorry no answers...just more questions ;).

In other words it's better change one and see the diffence than changing both at one time?????

There are two different camp thoughts on this one. However I should probably disconnect my batteries to reset the ECU per what I have read just to eliminate any doubt about what might be going on with the fuel efficiency part...

Pls let us know the outcome after the ECU resetting..

Plastic Button Screws on the Splash Guard...

I did this just (last?) weekend.
Error code P0155.

Remove the plastic "splash shield that cover the transmission (6 bolts, 12 mm). Follow the exhaust pipe up and you will see the O2 sensor clearly. I did post a picture, will try to find the post and link to it here.

You can easily get to it with properly sized crescent wrench, or a fixed wrench. I'll be running down to basement and provide the measurement in a little while.

If you cannot get it lose, start car and run fora short whle in order to heat up the exhaust. Might be easier getting to it then (note, I had not problems with either of the front ones).

When re-installing, add anti-seize, but MAKE SURE you keep the acual sensor clean!

Hi,

Wealth of information here. I am now ready to replace the O2 sensor. Quick question, how do you remove the 6 plastic bolts that hold that plastic splash guard? I tried to yank out the button but it only comes out a little, and it is stuck. I am afraid of breaking these little button plastic screws if I yank too hard. If I pull harder, would it pop out without breaking?

Thank you.

Yeah, you just yank the plastic plugs. One of them is different obviously cuz it's a nut instead. I just replaced two O2 sensors and there is a little less room to work with on my LX because of the AHC plumbing.

My drivers side went out about 8 months after the passenger...wish I would have knocked it out at the same time.

That makes me feel better about replacing both. I ended up buying a O2 sensor wrench at the local auto parts store. It is a $10 tool worth having.

Its a tool I'd may a lot more than $10 for....glad there cheap. FYI the drivers side plug was easier to get to by pulling the skid plate loose.

does anyone have a picture or know where i can find Bank 1 sensor 1 (Code P0135). How hard is this one to change out and where is the best place to buy the sensor??

Pretty much mirror location of Bank 2 sensor 1 shown in post 6. Pretty easy to change out with o2 socket (looks like crows foot with a flare nut opening)

Think they are a little over $100 at the dealer.
