Are you talking about just removing the speedo cluster, or the "whole" dash? If your talking about the whole dash, these photos give you an idea what your in for. These are photos of Mud member Koifish's dash, that he had to take apart to replace his heater core. So, since he just did this job, I'm sure he can answer your questions on how it's done.

According to the LC repair manual, Toyota asked you to remove the steering wheel. Good to see that you didn't have to. I have to replace my heatercore for it is leaking. This post will be helpful. There is this great video, showing concise steps in removing the dashboard. However, it's for a 94 and mine is a 97.

Anyone looking for heater core removal info:

It is possible to remove the heater core housing without taking down the big cross bar, steering column, harness. Unscrew the windshield defrost vent assembly and pull it up off the top of the heater box. You can then wiggle it out- helps to push it over towards the passenger side a bit and swing the driver side out away from the firewall.

You brought back my nightmares. I hated the removal and installation of the dash. I had some surface rusts on the pillar so I removed it to prime and paint.

Good god what a mess! Glad to see I accidentally have a 95+ so it will be a little easier.

I have a new dash to replace my cracked one and I want to set aside some time to get this done. Mostly so I don't have to store the new dash and risk it getting damaged. Might as well replace the heater core while I'm in there to be safe.
