Look at the first photo- why would a set of 55 keys have a remote on the ring with them? Hmmm. Well when I got the 55 the rear window would not work from either the dash switch or the key switch on the tailgate shell. PO had a set of wires jumped into the tailgate and needed battery in the cargo area to hot wire it. Not the best. I thought about fixing ti to work like it should then thought of the possible work behind the dash. Not a nice thought I've been down that road many times. Checked the tailgate switch wires with a meter- should have worked "UP but nothing "DOWN". I remember on my 72 I actually mounted a toggle switch on the outside of the tailgate to operate the rear window!

So I thought about an easier way to address this, maybe a new approach. Looked on EBay and found some remote fobs with four channels- I only needed two channels but got the ones with four because I didn't find any with just two channels. Without going into too many details (more to come) I used the relays that came with the remote to operate two heavy duty relays, one for the UP function the other for the DOWN. Used a separate circuit breaker in the hot line going to a new fuse box and located everything in the passenger side quarter panel. See photos.

Of course I had to fix my gearbox first- thanks Ty for selling me a brass gear. This system seems to work well- push the button to close the relays and push again to open them. I am using only channels A and B on the remote. I'll do a schematic if anyone ahs any interest and can get a parts list together, too. Bought the HD relays, circuit breaker, and fuse holeder at NAPA. Basically the relay controlled by the remote only operates the heavier replays that actually control the flow of 12V positive juice to make the tailgate motor rotate one direction or the other.

Let me know what you guys think! Gary S

Wow! Looks great! When you finish your testing and get your parts list and schematic done put me on the very interested list. Current pig as been trouble free, (but now I said that will probably quit this afternoon :-( ). Still looking forward to receipt of a brass gear - just in case. Thanks Gary! Looks great.

Gary...what's next. Climate control and power locks and windows?
