I bought a 94 FZJ80. I was able to find a new short block and obviously have to get the top rebuilt. I also found a remanucater company that will use OEM parts. I get different opinions. What seems obvious to me is to go with the new. Other's say the remanufactured will last as long be less expensive and a better warranty. I should include that the motor starts right up. There is an engine knock and that is the reason for the engine replacement. Any ideas?

If both are using oem parts I’d go with the remanufactured. Assuming it’s from a company you trust will stand behind the warranty. Are you positive it is an engine knock? The reason I ask is a power steering pump gear can sound like that too.

Curious where you are getting the reman from? I have a 97 lx450 with 277k on it. I am also looking to add a Supercharger to it and I just wonder if I should just go ahead and put a reman in her so I know that I am starting in a good place.

The only folks that I would have "remanufacture" a 1FZ-FE for me would be Jarco in Canton, GA.

Unfortunately, the do not sell OTC. Would need to get through a Toyota dealer.

we used jarco plenty of times at the shop with no problems, they may be more expensive than a junk yard motor but its worth it. especially for the free pocket screwdriver and the bags of m&m's that come with the motor :hillbilly:

Sorry been gone awhile. Found a Toyota master tech. His brother works at a dealer parts dept. We got his brothers pricing so we went with the short block. The entire rebuild using oem everything but hoses was less expensive than a rebuild. Got lucky.

Oh wow, JARCO. Haven’t seen that name in almost 20 years. Used to be THE place to get your JDM motor/parts or half cut back in the day.

Lotta old JARCO on my Preude.
