Plenty of FAFO marks on this body, my brother and I started using face shields 2 years ago and have avoided significant injury.
Being a four-eyes always gives me some amount of eye protection, but I'll occasionally add more as well. I've actually destroyed a number of prescription glasses wrenching (scratching them mainly) and now wear an old pair when in the shop. However I am quite religious about hearing protection, and usually put on a set of neckband earplugs on as soon as I go into the shop, and put them in my ears when I am about to do something loud.

The most painful definitely FAFOs go to a grinding-stone gash (big piece of skin was ground away and took weeks to heal), then a bandsaw-related finger injury that was pure stupidity on my end. I've made a concerted effort to wise up since those....having a great deal of health and safety training/certifications at work, so I certainly know better, but it's easy to get complacent and do stupid stuff when you are working in your own shop.

Same here. I get a 2 year warranty on all my lenses since I usually go all out and get every option available. And every 1.5 years take those lenses in for a free replacement. Completely worth it!

Ive got my safety sandals (aka flip flops). The first time I said that to my dad, he laughed then called me an idiot
they work until they don't and you kick a piece of metal with your pinkie toe and are 100% sure it's completely gone, only for the urgent care to clean it, wrap it, and send you back home. totally didn't happen to me....nope

That's a point of contention with Mrs. Rednexus. I'm usually wearing steel-toed cowboy boots (get a new pair yearly from work for free!), she's often in the flip flops when we work on stuff together :).

We wear /// wore crocs when we weld. I really like my prescription Heatwave XLs. They make me look like Carl from UP, but they protect the eyes and then some.

I was on a safety barrier crew here in FL and watched a many rip off his thumb with a hammer drill that got bound up. Oh fudge..

I weld a FR shirt (pearl-snap style of course :)) cotton duck pants, and the steel toes. It gets awfully hot in the summer! But, I have some pretty bad burns on my arms from welding under the GX in a hoodie - which a big glob of molten metal burned right though. If I weld under the rig now, I step up even more and wear a leather welder's jacket.

Hobbies are not kind of boots - my current pair of "old" steel toes that get used most in the shop for welding have done their job but are looking rough.

Friends for the holiday weekend.

The Ascend bumpers are in! Picked them up from the regional FedEx freight terminal in Mrs. Rednexus' Highlander. My first impressions are very good. The bumpers came bolted and strapped to a custom pallet (the forklift operator commented it was the best packaging job he'd ever seen). The level of design/innovation in the bumpers is quite impressive. Definitely made by someone who takes pride in the product instead of just churning them out to make money. The rear is indeed super beefy and I will have no qualms using it to pull my camper and tractor. I'll continue to unbox and inspect them for an install later this summer.

Awesome! I'm eagerly awaiting the install. I'm likely to buy the same rear bumper in the near future.

It will probably be mid/late July. Landscaping projects are getting in the way of Lexus time :).

Prior to paint and installation I need to build the rear swingout (ordered as a DIY kit) and figure out a mount for the trailer connector, Andersen power plug, rear airbag lines, and backup camera. Pretty glad I ordered these pre-built as it likely saved 2-3 days of welding time that can be re-allocated to landscaping time.

I probably missed it but did you say what are your plans for those bumpers? Color match or something else?
Likely a semi-gloss or satin black industrial paint or DTM coating that I can easily touch up via brush. I'm going to skip powdercoating on them as I expect they'll both get scraped fairly often and powdercoat is difficult to touch up.

Though, I certainly could have them color-matched and might think about asking the sandblasting shop (who is also a paint shop) for a color-match quote.

Other goodies have also arrived thanks to Memorial Day sales :). The SS2s and SS3s are both amber fogs that will go in the bumper, along with the 30" light bar (which is a discontinued combo flood/spot I got on clearance). The SS1s are floods that will be mounted on the rear like chase lights but will function as reverse lights. Diode Dynamics is based here in MO so the lights arrived the day after I ordered them.

Outstanding parts orders that have yet to arrive are the fuel and TC skids, snorkel, and chase light brackets. I'm sure the snorkel will be the last to come in.

I'm in no rush. Atm I'm in the middle of doing a full color change paint job on the GX. Going to TRD Pro Lunar Rock!

That will look awesome! Are you DIY'ing or having it done? I'll likely need a repaint in the next few years.

Diy. It's my first time painting anything! All in my build thread over on tundras. I got the bumpers primered last weekend. Hoping to get the body primered this weekend. Using an ANI Compact LVLP spray gun and a 26 gallon harbor freight compressor

This is basically the last thing I need to do to finish the salvage rebuild project
