I like the "big shoulders" type design hoops, they provide good corner protection and connect to the stinger below the bends making for a stronger connection.

The hoops IMO are way too high. Bravo for coming up with something new on the market though.... needs some revisions... or options for no hoops at all or mini ones.

What is the projected weight of this bumper? What is the largest size winch that can be mounted......

we could do that, no problem, then you could do what you wanted on top! consider that a done deal!!

I'll place an order if you can say it will be strong enough for a deer strike :)

anybody have a dead deer I could borrow, that would be good you-tube action!!! LOL

this bumper would kick a deers a**!

Justin

I like it! I may have to sell the ARB for one of those. It looks like it has the potential to handle a moose hit! ;-)

TK

a moose is a very large animal, the tube would have to be gusseted, which we can do!

Give me a week with the bumper. I am sure I could nail one on the way to work between Leadville and Buena Vista.

If not, they wander all around the shop on the prison grounds. Do you want small, medium or large?

Seriously it wouldn't take me long to test it out.

go big or go home right!!

IMHO the angle on the lower is too vertical, angling it back like the green line would be better. As it is when it touches an obstacle it will be like a wall, with some more angle (45 degrees?) it would allow the rig to slide up, that would also make the bumper stronger. Look at the two frame-bumper bolts, they are at an angle, nipping off the lover frame corners outside of those bolts would allow for much better angles.

The side wings hang down too far, bringing them up somewhat like the line in the second pic would make for better clearance and less bulky looks?

from the side view, there is no side protection yet, as for the bottom pic. if we did cut the plate where the green line is, the ac condensor would hang down!

Justin,

Nice work! I like the smooth front and integrated protection for the a/c drier. Find a way to round the outboard corners and integrate tubing to protect the fender sheet metal. The wings are designed well with adequate protection for the a/c drier but angle up sharply just outboard of the drier to open up the area in front of the tire to aid in climbing rocks and ledges. The rounding of the wing corners will allow for smoother rubbing of rocks and trees and make for a more finished look. I'm partial to ARBish style of bumper tubing because I routinely use it on rocks and trees to aid in turning (remember BHCC 2008??). The smooth front would be an awesome feature because it'll ride smoothly up rocks, trees and whatever else a guy can find on the trail. I realize real estate in front of the grill is limited but is there any way to relocate the winch back so once a fairlead is installed it will not protrude out in front of the bumper?

Keep up the good work.

Look at the room over the drier, if you loosen the clamp bolt, by rotating and gently reforming the lines it can be moved up, then trim the bottom of the bracket.

Hey, guys this is our prototype bumper, We are asking of your opinions for the upper tubular area!! We would like to produce these with a major input from the real 80 owners!!

Please let us know!!

Thanks

I know this would be a complete change of plans but why not offer a full tube style bumper. IMO the tube bumpers are the up & coming thing. Cheaper, light weight, and easier to build. There is only 1 company I know of that is making a tube bumper and I'm not even sure if it's available yet. I think you can match the lines of the 80 better and protect that A/C dryer without giving up too much approach angle. Just my opinion though.

Love it! Great to see fresh ideas in the 80 realm; keep 'em coming Justin!

Justin,

Nice stacking rocks with you at TAC, as soon as you get the front bumper worked out, start immediately on the rear. Something with high rear quarter protection would be apprieciated. All the way up to the bottom of the sliding windows.

Those top hoops have to go, they look like big droopy eyebrows that need to be tweezed. :D

I guess my question is "what problem does this bumper solve"?

I fear you are trying to "out ARB" ARB, and unless you are competing on cost (and not making any money), that's a tough proposition. It's like trying to out-boring Toyota when you don't have the quality reputation (think Nissan in the 90's).

Keep the designs coming. You know I think you should go tube with an absolute focus on clearance. Lots of guys willing to trim a bit who don't have any solutions on the market unless they have a local fabricator.

Clearance is everything on an 80 when you are trying to keep your lift moderate.
