red button by shifter? 80 series

I have a red button by my shifter and I have no idea what it does. It has some fancy Japanese writing on it but no clue. I have pressed it a few times but nothing happens, no sushi appears in my center consol fridge or anything, is it broken? I don't think its an overdrive button as I don't notice any difference with it in or out. thanks.

If memory serves it's the park release override. The transmission can not be shifted out of park unless the brake pedal is depressed. If that circuit fails you push the button to release the lever. In export vehicles there is a cover that needs to be removed to access the release. The JDMs have an exposed button.
