The 4WDABC.ca received an email from the RO of the Peace region and it reinforced the opinion that the association needs much more representation from outside the greater Vancouver area.

Is there any interest from the Donkeys in talking to government types regarding access issues and trail issues, basically conveying the idea that 4 wheelers in general are responsible people who enjoy the backcountry.....

The following is the content of the letter;

"I was conversing with Mike Peters (District Recreation Officer, Chilliwack) and he had referred me to your web page. Talking with Mike he had mentioned that he had made good relations with your association and that this is helping with the image of 4x4 and some of the concerns around environmental respect.

I am the RO in the Peace region. In the Peace there is no shortage of mud, and where there is mud there is lots of fun and mischief to be had. The Peace has an overabundance of industrial development (forestry & oil and gas). The Pease also has a wide diversity of recreationalist both motorized and non motorized. For the most part I have captured most of the motorized and non motorized groups. However, I am not aware of any official 4x4 clubs in this area, but I do get lots of correspondence from other users about 4x4er’s and not usually good.

Would you be able to send me some information about your association that I could display and hand out to the public. I will be partnering with the local ATV and Snowmobile club at the Fort St John Trade Show (April 16, 17, 18) and this would be a great opportunity to make contact with the 4x4er’s and illustrate the benefits of being organized and having a say in their recreational sport.

Please let me know what your thoughts are.

Cheers

Tim Bennett P

District Forest Recreation Officer
Peace & Fort Nelson Districts"

Cheers,

Heck yeah I'm interested. The history of the local (non cruiser) 4X4 club is sort of jaded, since the club sort of split into two directions, the crazy big tired mud bog, car crushing crowd, and the more environmentally aware, don't look like yahoo crowd. But there is a definate animosity between sleders, quadders, and 4wheel drive trucks. Most users blame the 4X4s for ruts on the trails, when it is obvious it is very intense quad use that causes most rut issues. Anyway I would be more than willing to talk to him, but sad to say I don't think there is an organized club, just a lot of yahoos.

Cheers,
Deny

Deny, can you PM me with your contact info please?

Kim.

Thanks Deny for taking this on. Let me know if I can help you out at all. Right now I've got too many irons in the fire but I think it's a very important issue and I'd like to be involved.

P.S. I had never seen so many yahoos until I moved up here. Especially the chicks... My gawd. Were you there the day we ran into the chick on the dirt bike covered in mud wearing only a bikini??

Covered in mud, only a bikini. No, not hot at all :grinpimp: (I think she was pretty decent from what I remember)

Flat girls have all the fun!

That's cool. It'll be great to have a contact like that up here.

Thuri - Are you gonna come out to our next meeting?

We should probably have one of those soon eh? Jim is leaving the week after next, should we have one early next week?

Early early next week works. Not Tuesday. Not Wednesday. Thurs = ok. Friday = holiday (AKA road trip) so if not Mon or Thurs. then after Easter. I don't suppose you made the meeting tonight? I meant to call you but got sidetracked by work.

No, I was thinking about it this morning, then work happend, and then life got in the way, by it being the bosses birthday, so the land side wanting to chip in for a gift certificate, and I said bah humbug, why should employees buy presents for the boss, and I saved the enviro side from chipping in by saying the enviro side will buy beer for drinking after work, so then we did that and I had one too many, then Chris wanted to go for grub after work, and a few more beers, and I totally missed phone call.

 Give this tard some idea of your schedule so I don't find myself up there "walking the dog" for a week and a half..... I thought we were going to get a tub of ice cream and watch Oprah.... or something to do with an O.

We have an excellent RO down here. Just recently, we met with the City of Coquitlam, Ministry of Tourism RO and a bunch of 4x4 club reps and came up with the basis for a key and sticker program to regain access to Eagle Mountain.

In downtown Coquitlam!

Most wheelers present were, and still are, amazed!
