I put my tranny in today, got everything hooked up and started up the truck to have it back up when I let off the clutch in Neutral. What the ****? I am so dissapointed right now. I already know I gotta take the tranny back out...Whats wrong though? Thanks guys...

I'm confused... are you saying that with the shifter in N, the truck tries to go backwards when you let out the clutch?

Who did the rebuild?

My school teacher in manual transmission class, he claims he has rebuilt several yota transmissions, and seemed like he knew what he was doing... And yes, it wont go into any gear, it will only stay in neutral and will reverse with clutch out in neutral. I used more than enough force to try and get it into a gear but it wouldnt budge. Im gonna ask my teacher and see what he says... Thanks guys...

Like Jarod said, remove the shifter and take a look down into that linkage, it's quite possible to have the tranny in R, and install the shifter in the N position. It's an easy fix. There's a receptacle socket kinda looking thing that the plastic bushing on the end of the shifter should fit into. When the tranny is in R that thing will be pushed way forward out of the way, and you can easily put the shifter in wrong.
