I am trying to remove my rear window assembly so that I can clean things up, check the gears etc.... and I am having a little problem with what I believe they call the stop plates that let me remove the roller guide from the window channel or holder. I can see them but I didn't want to force it and break something. Can someone give me an idea of how to remove those?

I read all I could find but couldn't find the details I was looking for.

Thanks!

Thank you! That's what I thought as I looked at it and I did applied some force in that direction but I didn't want to break anything until I double checked. I will oil them up a bit and try again tonight.

Yep, ended up sliding out. I oiled them up real well and after a bit of coaxing they came out.

I got the assembly out and it looks pretty good. It does look a bit different than the pictures I remember seeing. I can't find the fine toothed gear that I thought I saw on others. Mine has a bigger toothed gear that is made out of metal. I didn't have much time to look at it last night. I will try to do more on it tonight and take some pics. Any chance the 79 assembly is different??

It does look like it will clean up well and I will get it all greased up. My window is literally "stuck" in the weather stripping and is extremely hard to move up and down, no wonder the assembly couldn't budge it. I am sure I will have to do some work on the weather stripping to make it fit and slide better.

Let me know if you need a gear I have a guy that does brass ones and there's also another dude on mud that does them

Last night I got everything taken apart and greased up. The nylon gear looked to be in good shape......for now. I still had problems rolling it up and down and so I had to open up some space on the tracks because it has all new weather stripping and I think it was just too tight. After a bit of work I got it working pretty good.

But here is the funny thing. It works great when I use the key but not so good when I use the switch up front. Could it be I have bad wiring from the switch to the motor? Or perhaps one of those fuses, or relays or whatever they are is bad?? Another thing to add to my list of things to do.

Gonzo, I wouldn't mind getting one of those brass gears for the future. I think it is only a matter of time before I need it. Can you give me some info on where to get it?

Thanks!

The master switch for the rear window is the key operated unit in the tailgate. The dash switch is secondary and you must have the ignition in the on position to have it work. There are no fuses for the window although there is a large circuit breaker under the dash to protect the motor from overload. There is also a relay for the dash switch that closes when the ignition is in the on position also under the dash. It's possible that the wiring or the connections from the dash switch are frayed or oxidized. The wiring harness for the dash switch runs along the PS door jams and into the PS rear wheel well. You may want to give it a quick inspection. Pay particular attention to the wiring as it exists the tailgate sill and bend up into the tail gate. The wiring has to bend at this point ever time the gate is opened and closed and could fatigue.

Does the circuit breaker reset itself, or does it need a manual reset?

Auto reset. Give some time to cool down and you can hear it click.
